Personal Support Worker - Don Mills, Toronto - CAD$1,232.00/week

Description

About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 86-year-old gentleman with Parkinson's disease who lives at home with his 86-year-old wife. While his wife manages most household tasks like cooking, cleaning, and laundry, she needs support caring for her husband throughout the day. He uses a walker or wheelchair for mobility and requires assistance with most aspects of daily living. This is a family that values reliability, clear communication, and a caregiver who brings positive energy while respecting their independence.

Responsibilities:

- Administer medications at exact times: 6:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 6:00 PM, and 12:00 AM (timing is critical for Parkinson's management)
- Assist with toileting and personal hygiene throughout the day
- Provide full meal preparation and feeding support
- Help with walker and wheelchair transfers
- Offer memory prompts and gentle redirection as needed
- Light tidying and household support
- Occasional transportation for errands or appointments
- Monitor safety and provide supervision
- Communicate clearly with family about daily care and any concerns

What We're Looking For:

- Experience caring for individuals with Parkinson's disease
- Skilled in mobility assistance with walkers and wheelchairs
- Comfortable with toileting and personal care tasks
- Reliable and punctual, especially regarding medication schedules
- Patient, calm demeanor with ability to provide cognitive support
- Takes initiative and anticipates needs
- Fluent English speaker
- Valid driver's license for occasional outings

- Someone who makes the client feel comfortable while bringing positive energy to the home

Schedule:

Daily live-in care needed. The caregiver will have an uninterrupted sleep period overnight (client sleeps from approximately 12:00 AM to 9:00 AM). Active caregiving duties will be spread throughout the day around medication times and personal care needs, totaling approximately 8 hours of hands-on work. The client spends most of his time resting in his chair, requiring assistance primarily for bathroom visits (about three times daily) and medication administration.
