About the Role
At Saffron Hill, exceptional dishes begin with thoughtful preparation and respect for every ingredient. As a Prep Cook, you will help bring Italian culinary inspiration and Nova Scotia ingredients to life, building the foundation for consistent, beautifully executed dishes. Working closely with our Chefs and Culinary Team, you will prepare ingredients, complete assigned cooking tasks, and maintain organized, well-stocked prep areas while following established recipes and food safety standards. Through precision, teamwork, and a willingness to learn, you will support a kitchen where quality begins long before service and every contribution matters.
What You’ll be Doing
- Prepare and cook menu items across assigned stations according to recipes and presentation standards.
- Assist in the preparation of sauces, stocks, dressings, and other foundational components.
- Communicate proactively with chefs and kitchen team members to ensure smooth service and accurate prep levels.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace to prevent cross contamination, injuries, and food safety risks.
- Complete daily prep tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked prep area at all times.
- Follow proper food storage and labeling procedures.
- Follow all Occupational Health & Safety practices to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
- Support teammates during busy periods, contributing to a respectful, collaborative kitchen environment.
- Assist with receiving and storing deliveries using safe lifting and handling techniques as required.
- Collaborate effectively with Front‑of‑House and Culinary teams to support a smooth and elevated service experience.
- Contribute to a calm, supportive, and team-oriented environment during peak service periods.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization,
and presentation standards in all kitchen areas.
- Follow all Occupational Health & Safety policies to support a safe and inclusive workplace.
- Identify and report potential hazards or concerns in a timely and responsible manner.
- Participate in training, service briefings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Treat all Guests and Team Members with dignity, respect, and professionalism at all times.
What You’ll Bring
- 1-3 years of previous kitchen or food preparation experience
- Nova Scotia Food Handlers Safety Certification is required
- Red Seal Journeyman Cook certification as asset
- Basic knife skills and knowledge of kitchen equipment
- Strong understanding of cooking techniques and kitchen operations
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes accurately
- Willingness to learn and follow established safety, operational, and food handling standards
- A strong understanding of cooking techniques and kitchen operations
- A strong sense of reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse, collaborative team
- Comfort working in a quick-paced hospitality environment
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
How You’ll Work
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during a shift
- Ability to safely lift and carry items up to 50 lbs, with or without accommodation
- Tasks may involve bending, reaching, twisting, and working on uneven or slippery surfaces

Pay: $21.52 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
