The Opportunity
The City of Selkirk is currently in search of a Program Coordinator to join our team. Under the general direction of the Manager of Cultural and Recreational Programs the Program Coordinator will determine the needs, interests and opportunities of city residents in the areas of programs and initiatives related to aquatics, recreation, sports, and fitness.
Job Duties
Program Coordination Responsible for managing, monitoring and evaluating programs to provide the necessary data to assess the ongoing viability of community programs and initiatives and prepare reports as directed by the Manager of Cultural and Recreational Programs.
Research, assess and recommend community programming needs and interests. Develop procedures and determine materials required for the facilitation of these services which would be delivered by community groups/organizations or through the direct provision of services.
Liaise with community and regional organizations providing programs and initiatives.
Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to communicate, coordinate and market community and City programs in the areas of aquatics, recreation, sport, and fitness
1. Administrative
Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budget for the provision of programs and initiatives within the community. Actively seek funding opportunities including grant sourcing/application in relation to programs and initiatives.
Assist in the development, implementation,
application and review of the Department policies and cost-effective delivery objectives related to programs and initiatives.
Provide the administrative support which includes the preparation of agendas, minutes, financial reports and correspondence which may be directed by the Age Friendly, and the Fair-Trade Committee.
Attend meetings as directed by the Manager of Cultural and Recreational Programs.
1. Supervisory
Actively seek to recruit, plan, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of assigned casual employees, volunteers and contractors in the areas of responsibility within programs and initiatives. Ensure the continual development of leadership training opportunities for program personnel plus community groups/organizations, leaders and instructors/coaches who provide programs and initiatives.
Ensure that all necessary records of work task assignments and daily time sheets of assigned employees are maintained and submitted on an ongoing basis.
1. Assist with the coordination of culture and heritage programs and initiatives as required as a member of the Culture, Recreation and Green Transportation team.
2. Provide support services within the City of Selkirk Emergency Plan in the event of an emergency as required.
3. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements shall include: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum qualifications shall include
Successful completion of a Degree in Recreation, Kinesiology or Physical Education or equivalent of education and experience.
Successful completion of courses in:
Community Program Development
Community Program Marketing
Community Leadership Development
Record Keeping and Program Budgeting
2 years progressive experience in a supervisory position preferably in a municipal setting
Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License
Proficient in using Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook, as well as proficient in researching information on the internet
Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Experience seeking grant opportunities and completing applications and reports
Experience working with the community at large, including youth, preferably in a municipal setting
Must possess the ability to understand and interpret the policies of the Corporation
Must be adaptable to change and possess the ability to generate dynamic solutions
Must exhibit attention to detail skills while overseeing multiple projects and tasks
Clear Criminal Reference Check
Clear Child Abuse Registry Check
Must be physically able to perform all the clerical aspects or physical duties associated with the position
Desired qualifications
Aquatic Facilities Operators Certificate
Professional certification or courses through Manitoba Fitness Council
Qualified certification or courses through Coaching Association of Canada
Professional certification or courses through High Five
