JOB SUMMARY The Assistant Production Operator supports manufacturing operations through material handling, parts preparation, grinding, deburring, and general production assistance. Working alongside production operators and other shop personnel, this role helps ensure materials and components are prepared, processed, and moved efficiently while maintaining quality standards and a safe, organized work environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Move, sort, organize, and stage raw materials, parts, and finished components to support production requirements.
Load and unload materials and assist with positioning components for processing and assembly.
Assist production operators with equipment setup, material preparation, and daily production activities.
Perform grinding, deburring, sanding, and finishing to remove sharp edges, burrs, weld spatter, and surface imperfections.
Clean and prepare parts and surfaces for welding, assembly, painting, or further processing.
Use hand tools, power tools, grinders, and other shop equipment safely and effectively.
Assist with measuring, fitting, fastening, and basic assembly of components as directed.
Follow work orders, production instructions, and established procedures to complete assigned tasks.
Inspect parts and materials for visible defects, damage, or inconsistencies and report concerns.
Identify and organize components to maintain workflow and prevent material damage or loss.
Operate material handling equipment only when trained and authorized.
Check tools and equipment before use and report maintenance needs or unsafe conditions.
Maintain clean and organized work areas, including removing scrap and disposing of waste in designated areas.
Communicate material shortages, production delays, and quality or safety concerns to the supervisor.
Follow company policies, safe work procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Mechanical aptitude: Ability to learn production processes and use shop tools and equipment appropriately.
Material handling: Ability to move, stage, and store materials safely while preventing damage.
Attention to detail: Ability to identify defects and complete preparation and finishing tasks to required standards.
Following instructions: Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions, written work orders, and established procedures.
Teamwork and communication: Ability to work cooperatively with shop personnel and communicate issues promptly.
Organization and time management: Ability to maintain an orderly workspace and complete tasks according to production priorities.
Safety awareness: Ability to recognize hazards and consistently follow secure work practices.
Reliability and adaptability: Dependable attendance, willingness to learn, and flexibility to assist across production areas.
Previous manufacturing, shop, or material handling experience is an asset.
Experience with grinding, deburring, and hand or power tools is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing shop with exposure to noise, dust, sparks, vibration, and moving equipment.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive movements are required.
Duties include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and positioning materials, using lifting equipment or team assistance where required.
Personal protective equipment must be worn as required for the task and work area.
Work may involve varying temperatures and occasional outdoor material handling.
Overtime may be required to meet production demands.
