TIRE TECHNICIAN A Tire Technician installs, repairs, balances, and rotates tires on various vehicles, including cars, trucks and SUVs. They also inspect tires for wear and damage, recommend replacement, and perform related services like repairing, mounting, balancing. Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and customer service skills are important.
Key Responsibilities
- Tire Installation and Removal: Dismounting, mounting, and balancing tires on wheels.
- Tire Repair: Identifying and safely repairing tire damage, such as punctures.
- Tire Inspection: Assessing tire condition for wear, damage, and proper inflation.
- Customer Service: Interacting at times with customers, explaining tire issues and referring questions when needed.
- Safety Compliance: Following safety procedures, steel toed boots, wearing hearing protectors when applicable and maintaining a clean work area.
- Tool and Equipment Operation: Using hand and power tools, as well as specialized tire equipment.
- Maintain a clean work enironment
Essential Skills:
- Mechanical Aptitude: Understanding how vehicles and their components work, especially tires and wheels.
- Attention to Detail: Ensuring proper tire installation, balancing, and repair.
- Problem-Solving:
Identifying and resolving tire-related issues and/or referring problems when noticed.
- Physical Stamina: Tire work can be physically demanding, requiring lifting and maneuvering heavy tires.
- Ability to Work Under Pressure: Managing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment: Tire technicians typically work in garages, auto repair shops, or tire stores. The work can involve exposure to noise, dust, and various weather conditions. At times, the volume of cars being serviced is quite high, so the ability to work at a steady pace is essential.
Work bib overalls are supplied at the job site
Experience
- Previous dealership or automotive repair shop experience is highly preferred.
- Solid mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience using hand tools and power tools.
- Familiarity with automotive maintenance procedures and tire installation techniques.
- Customer service skills that enable clear communication and positive interactions with clients and team mates
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when handling tires and automotive parts.
- Basic understanding of automotive safety standards
- Holds a valid BC Drivers License
Pay: $18.25-$33.71 per hour Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
