Who We Are
Gentec Equipment is a leading Canadian manufacturer renowned for our superior heavy equipment attachments. Our steadfast commitment to innovation and durability positions us at the forefront of the industry.
We offer a comprehensive range of products designed to optimize productivity and performance across construction, agriculture, mining, and shoreline and coastal management. Our reputation for exceptional customer service and customized solutions has established us as a trusted partner for clients throughout North America.
The Role
As Gentec grows, purchasing, supplier and carrier relationships, and logistics are being pulled together under one dedicated role, rather than staying spread across the organization.
The Buyer & Logistics Coordinator centralizes those functions into one dedicated role: owning supplier and carrier relationships, purchase orders, safety stock levels, daily shipment tracking, returns, in close partnership with the person who owns inventory accuracy in Gentec's MRP system. The goal is measurable — fewer stockouts and overstocks, faster and more reliable shipments, lower COGS and operating expenses, and freed-up time for the operations and sales teams to focus on their core work.
Key ResponsibilitiesPurchasing & Supplier Management
- Own the end-to-end purchasing cycle for raw materials (steel, hydraulic components, hardware) and shop consumables, including generating and tracking purchase orders.
- Manage relationships with suppliers and carriers alike, owning cost, service level, and reliability across the vendor base.
- Monitor safety stock levels and thresholds using stock reports, ordering to prevent both stockouts and costly overstock.
- Track import/tariff requirements affecting cross-border logistics (e.g., Section 232 steel tariffs) and keep the related paperwork current.
- Identify cost-saving and risk-reduction opportunities across suppliers and carriers.
- Forecast upcoming material and component needs from sales trends and production schedules, so purchasing stays ahead of demand instead of reacting to it.
Logistics & Shipping
- Own outbound and inbound shipping end-to-end: run a daily review of the sales/orders screen, action anything that needs it, and mark orders complete once delivered.
- Track daily shipment status across carriers, following up on shipments that haven't moved in a few days and resolving delivery issues before they become customer complaints.
- Manage the returns process and coordinate with logistics partners — including cross-border/US shipping contacts — on returns, customs, and related paperwork.
- Check shipping documentation (drawings, photos, packing lists) against orders before dispatch to catch errors before they reach the customer.
- Own carrier account issues and disputes.
Inventory, Invoicing & Data Integrity
- Partner daily with the inventory owner: review the stock screen, action purchasing needs, and keep Gentec's MRP system stock data accurate and current.
- Catch and correct SKU errors — using existing SKUs instead of creating duplicates, and making sure substitutions are reflected accurately in inventory.
- Flag and help resolve incomplete or late-closed production orders ("makes") that leave inventory records out of sync.
- Partner with the Quality team on receiving inspections, flagging non-conforming incoming materials before they enter stock or production.
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain — steel, industrial,
or manufacturing purchasing experience is a strong plus, though direct industry experience isn't required.
- Skilled at negotiating price, terms, and total cost of ownership with suppliers — not just placing orders.
- Comfortable researching and comparing suppliers, and tracking vendor performance over time.
- Comfortable owning supplier and carrier relationships, including negotiating cost and resolving service issues.
- Self-directed with a strong sense of urgency — someone who spots a problem and chases it down without being told.
- Detail-oriented and comfortable with administrative rigor: purchase orders, spreadsheets, and daily tracking routines.
- Comfortable communicating in English with cross-border logistics and customs contacts — the logistics side of the role can be trained on the job; purchasing experience is the priority.
- Experience with an ERP/MRP system is an asset.
- CPSM, CSCP, or similar procurement certification is a plus, not required.
- Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
- Comfortable in a hands-on, fast-paced manufacturing environment with a small, growing team.
- Purchasing experience in an ISO-certified (e.g., ISO 9001) manufacturing environment is a bonus.
