Trulite Glass and Aluminum is currently looking for a: CAD Designer – Intermediate to Senior (Technical Lead)
Location: Woodbridge. Type: Full-time, permanent, on site . Reports to: Operations Manager . Compensation: $75,000 – $85,000 per year, based on experience
About the role
Trulite is growing its technical team and hiring a CAD Designer at the intermediate or senior (Technical Lead) level. You'll turn architectural drawings and customer orders into accurate shop drawings and production files for our architectural glass products, working with estimating, project management, and the plant floor. Experienced candidates will lead complex projects, set drafting standards.
What you'll do
- Prepare shop drawings, elevations, sections and details for tempered, laminated, insulated (IG), bird-friendly and specialty glass.
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and orders; flag discrepancies and raise RFIs.
- Calculate glass sizes, clearances, holes, notches and edgework to industry standards and plant tolerances.
- Create and check CNC, cutting and laser-etch files for production.
- Revise drawings based on architect, contractor, and engineer comments, and keep submittal logs current.
- Produce cut lists, bills of materials and order data for production and purchasing.
- Take field measurements and visit the plant or site to resolve fit issues when needed.
- Follow company CAD standards and all health and safety requirements.
At the senior / Technical Lead level, you'll also:
- Lead drawing and submittal packages for complex, high-value, and custom projects.
- Give final technical review and sign-off before drawings and files go to production.
- Build and maintain CAD standards, templates, block libraries, and checklists.
- Mentor designers and prioritize drafting work to meet production schedules; may include direct supervision of the drafting team, depending on experience and business needs.
- Lead technical discussions with contractors, architects, and engineers.
- Work with production and quality to solve fabrication problems and reduce remakes.
- Support recent equipment and process rollouts, including file setup and operator guidance.
What you bring
- Diploma in architectural, mechanical, or industrial drafting/design technology, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of CAD drafting experience, ideally in glass, glazing, fabrication.
- Strong AutoCAD skills: Inventor, SolidWorks or Revit experience is an asset.
- Able to read architectural and structural drawings and specifications.
- Strong math skills and close attention to detail and tolerances.
- Clear communicator who works well with office and plant teams.
For the senior / Technical Lead level:
- 7+ years of CAD design experience, including 3+ in architectural glass, glazing, or curtain wall.
- In-depth knowledge of glass processing, edgework, tolerances, and relevant standards
- Able to read architectural and structural drawings and specifications.
- Strong math skills and close attention to detail and tolerances.
- C.E.T. designation is an asset.
Working conditions
- Office-based, with regular time on the plant floor and occasional site visits.
- Required PPE on the plant floor (safety footwear, cut-resistant gloves, safety glasses).
