Stone Soup Café & Catering is looking for a skilled and passionate Café Manager to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for someone with a solid management background and proven leadership & interpersonal skills. Previous culinary experience and creativity would be considered an asset. The manager must share the Stone Soup team’s commitment to high-quality food and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing daily café & catering operations, including opening & closing; food preparation & cooking; barista service; packaging and presentation of catering; delivery coordination for catering orders; cleaning and maintenance of the cafe space; and adherence to food and workplace safety protocols.
- Staff scheduling using Stone Soup’s scheduling system, 7shifts, working closely with the Social Enterprise Director & Coordinator.
- Labour-cost monitoring in partnership with the Social Enterprise Director.
- Hiring and training new staff, in partnership with the Social Enterprise Coordinator.
- Performance management for staff (expectations & accountability) in partnership with the Social Enterprise Director.
- Coverage for staff absences.
- Planning daily & weekly cafe specials.
- Portion, presentation & packaging quality control.
- Managing inventory & budgeting (in partnership with Social Enterprise Director): ordering food and supplies; receiving and checking orders; managing stock levels; managing waste/spoilage; communicating with suppliers & vendors.
- Overseeing customer service and customer issue resolution (cafe customers & catering clients)
- Coordinating catering requests via email and over the phone,
working closely with the Social Enterprise Director, Coordinator, and Administrator.
- Regularly answering phone calls and emails.
- Overseeing the proper implementation and use of Stone Soup’s point-of-sale (POS) system, Lightspeed.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of management experience (does not have to be industry-specific)
- A degree or diploma in management, culinary arts, or an applicable field would be considered an asset, but post-secondary education is not a requirement.
- Experience in both café and catering settings is an asset.
- Must complete certified food safety training.
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, occasional weekends, and during special events.
- A valid Canadian driver’s license and a vehicle would be considered an asset.
