The Role
You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post. Are you a motivated and experienced Registered Nurse looking to take the next step in your leadership career? As a Charge Nurse within the Critical Care service at the Institute of Neurological Sciences, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while supporting and developing nursing teams. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide clinical leadership, coordinate the day-to-day running of the ward, and ensure the highest standards of care are consistently maintained. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Full Time, Permanent
- You will be based at The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
- Working Pattern: Mon – Sun 12-hour shifts, day shift and night shift rotational throughout Spinal Unit
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care to ensure the delivery of safe and effective patient-centred care
- Provide clinical leadership and support to nursing staff, acting as a role model and source of expert advice within the ward environment
- Deputise for the Senior Charge Nurse and take responsibility for the daily operational management of the ward when required
- Supervise, support and mentor registered nurses, support workers and students to promote learning and professional development
- Monitor and maintain standards of care, ensuring compliance with local policies, procedures, clinical guidelines and professional standards
- Participate in quality improvement activities, clinical audit and service development initiatives to enhance patient outcomes
- Manage resources effectively, including staffing, equipment, supplies and workload allocation to support efficient service delivery
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Relevant post-registration qualification in Critical Care, Leadership or a related clinical specialty
- Relevant or significant experience within a Critical Care, High Dependency Unit or comparable acute clinical environment
- Proven leadership, clinical decision-making and team management skills within a busy healthcare setting
- Evidence of continuing professional development and a commitment to maintaining and enhancing clinical knowledge and skills
- Relevant or significant experience supporting quality improvement initiatives, clinical audit or service development activities
- Excellent communication,
organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead teams, prioritise workload and build effective multidisciplinary relationships
