PRAIRIEHOME COLONY SCHOOL- is located east of Wrentham (from the junction of highways 36 and 61, 16 km east on highway 61, north 0.5 km on range road 153). Prairiehome Colony School has approximately 23 students with a staff of 3.
Hours of work: Monday – Thursday - 8:45 a.m. – 3:25 p.m; Friday 8:25 a.m. – 11:25 a.m.
Ideally, candidates will:
- be prepared to always demonstrate respect for Hutterite culture, traditions, and beliefs.
- have a positive attitude about children, learning, and schools.
- have a critical role in instruction under the supervision of the teacher.
- be able to work well independently, with the teacher, and with the school learning team
- Provide support to students on a 1:1 basis or with small group instruction.
- support English Language Learners in language acquisition (primarily in early literacy and numeracy)
An Educational Assistant in Horizon School Division:
- Encourages students to develop and maintain positive interaction.
- Maintains confidentiality and a patient, supportive and enthusiastic commitment to students.
- As required, provides personal care including toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, grooming, etc. ensuring that student dignity is maintained. Attends to physical needs including lifting, positioning, and range of motion programs as identified by appropriate personnel.
- Ensures the safety of students in the school and community, which includes maintaining close supervision of students, ensuring student equipment is sanitized and put away,
retrieving students who attempt to leave their learning environment, calming and/or restraining students engaged in challenging behaviours; supervising and assisting students who utilize a variety of life skill tools (i.e., scissors, cooking utensils, etc.).
- Maintains collegial relationships with the students' learning team.
