Overview
We are seeking a dynamic, energetic Communications Coordinator to join our team and elevate our organization’s messaging and outreach. Skills and Experience
- A diploma or degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a related field (equivalent experience in a similar role may be considered) with a focus on non-profit or community-based organizations
- Experience using a variety of communication tools, platforms and approaches
- Attention to detail with strong editing skills
- Experience in brand implementation, design tools, website editing, social media and marketing
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Canva, WordPress, Mailchimp, and a variety of social media platforms is required; design software like the Adobe Creative Suite will be considered an asset.
- Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently where required and collaboratively in a team environment with management, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders
- Strong ability to problem-solve, prioritize work, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects
- Police Information and vulnerable sector record check may be required
Specific Accountabilities and Expectations: Communication Strategy, Messaging and Leadership
- Work with the Executive Director and BCA Communications Committee to develop and implement a communications strategy informed by the BCA business plan
- Chair the Communications Committee of the Association in the execution of the communications strategy of the BCA, promoting key messages and storytelling initiatives, while mobilizing local creativity, supporting resident capacity, and encouraging volunteerism on the Communications Committee.
- Create key messaging for BCA initiatives, events and programs
- Curate information from the ED and the BCA Board to template and draft our Annual Report and AGM presentation
- Support the development and implementation of internal BCA processes and procedures and community resource information
- Maintain consistency in brand voice, messaging alignment, and visual standards across all association touchpoints
- Develop compelling pitch decks, donor proposals, appeal letters, and sponsorship packages in collaboration with leadership and other team members for major capital campaigns, membership drives, and fundraising events.
- Act as the frontline lead for crisis communications including drafting statements, briefing leadership, and coordinating response plans during sensitive situations
- Write press releases, media advisories, and official statements to build positive local news coverage
Print Communications (The Bowest’ner)
- Drive the content strategy, layout design, and editorial pages for the bi-monthly print newspaper, The Bowest’ner, ensuring alignment with BCA values
- Write and coordinate display copy (heads, decks, callouts, captions) plus articles and content for the Bowest’ner as required
- Support advertisement development for the Bowest’ner by developing and maintaining relationships with local businesses and promoting the newsletter as a strong way to reach the community
- Coordinate print schedules, vendor deadlines, and Canada Post distribution (including boundary reviews and direct mail)
- Review the final draft of the Bowest’ner before it goes to print in conjunction with the Executive Director
Digital Communications
- Maintain, update and audit the BCA website to drive traffic and increase community engagement
- Create and mentor other team members in creating communication materials including advertisements, social media content, and posters to promote BCA activities, initiatives and stories
- Produce and distribute the monthly BCA e-newsletter
- Review incoming community news and announcements and direct content to appropriate communication channels
General Accountabilities and Expectations
- Provide exceptional customer service to all guests and users of the BCA, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive space
- Stay up to date on BCA and community activities to support inquiries by phone, email or in-person walk-ins
- Actively promote and facilitate resident participation in the community of Bowness, including membership, event and program participation, volunteerism and new initiatives
- Develop strong relationships with volunteers, residents, stakeholders, and relevant community partners, encouraging positive experiences with the BCA and building of collaborative relationships as required
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with the staff and other stakeholders of the Community Association
Pay: From $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 36.0 per week
