Denninger's Foods of the World

Canada

Welcome To Denninger's

Denninger’s has been in the business of great food since 1954. What began as a family enterprise in Hamilton is now a third-generation specialty European grocer and prepared-foods manufacturer, with four stores across the Hamilton–Burlington corridor, an in-store bistro, a growing wholesale business, and a plant that turns out hundreds of products by hand every day.

The distinction that matters most: Denninger’s does not simply sell great food; it makes it. Our 60,000-square-foot production facility in Hamilton handles the full chain from meat processing and smoking through cooking, chilling and packaging, producing more than 200 specialty cold cuts, sausages and smoked meats alongside over 100 prepared fine foods. Manufacturing accounts for roughly half of company sales.

That vertical integration, from the smokehouse to the shelf, is what sets Denninger’s apart in a category where most competitors sell what someone else made.

Inside each store sits our BiteHaus Bistro, a grocery-restaurant hybrid built on German street food, plus e-commerce, catering, and a gift-basket business that comes alive every holiday season. Roughly 280 people work here, many of them for decades. The customers are just as loyal: people drive past three other grocery stores to shop here, and they have been doing it for generations.

Denninger’s is now building its marketing department in-house. It is a deliberate investment in the brand: putting strategy, content, and customer growth in the hands of people who work inside the business, know the products, walk the plant floor, and can build the kind of institutional knowledge that only comes from being here.

Opportunity Overview

We are seeking a Content and Design Specialist to be the creative engine of Denninger’s new in-house marketing department. As the company brings its marketing in-house, this role is where the majority of what customers see will be made.

Reporting to the Strategic Marketing Manager, this position owns content end to end: capture, edit, publish, and connect with the audience that responds. Roughly three-quarters of the week is content. The remainder draws on formal design training: label and packaging work, promotional graphics, and direction of in-store signage.

The rhythm of the week is a production day in the field, then editing, then publishing, then conversation with a genuinely engaged community. It is a content role built for someone with a designer’s eye and craft, and it comes with the run of a seventy-year-old brand’s entire visual output, with results visible in store traffic and sales.

Role Details

Content Capture In practice this means:

- Rotating across the plant, the four stores and the bistro, plus new product arrivals and vendor partners
- Shooting to a standing shot list so the baseline assets always exist, alongside the moments worth chasing
- Building working relationships with department managers, butchers, bakers and plant staff, so the camera becomes part of the day
- Developing genuine product knowledge — the best content here comes from understanding how the food is actually made

Editing And Asset Management The largest single block of the week, and the craft at the heart of the role:

- Creating reels and short video: selecting takes, timing to audio, captions, colour
- Stills selection and correction

- Filing everything into the asset library with naming and tagging that makes it findable a year later
- Building the library into a company asset that keeps returning value long after the shoot

Publishing And Community

- Writing captions and hooks with the same care as the visuals
- Building the publishing queue a week ahead and adapting formats across platforms
- Daily community management — comments, direct messages, tags and mentions
- Responding to Google reviews across all four locations
- Running trial content as a standing mechanic, so the account keeps learning

Planning And Reporting

- The monthly editorial planning session and weekly adjustments
- Maintaining a content calendar roughly six weeks out
- Maintaining the standing shot list and the partner collaboration slate
- Monthly reporting on reach beyond existing followers, follower growth, engagement, saves and shares
- Tracking how much of the content effort reaches people who have not yet shopped here — a growth target this role reports against

Design And Graphics

Everything that is not video: promotional graphics, story templates, email assets, and in-store screen content, all produced to brand standard.

In-Store Signage

In-store signage and point-of-purchase sits with this role, with production support from a designer in another department and from template formats produced by the Strategic Marketing Manager. This position writes the specifications, briefs the work, and approves the output before it goes to print — creative direction across four stores, with hands to execute it.

Label And Packaging Design

One of the most valuable capabilities this role brings in-house, and one that directly enables new products to reach the shelf:

- Label design, packaging refreshes and straightforward SKUs, working to dielines and templates
- Partnering with an external regulated-packaging specialist, who leads recent suites and complex projects and verifies all regulatory content: nutrition panels, allergen declarations and bilingual requirements

The Monthly Feature Email

Concept, design, and build of the monthly storytelling email.

Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is video-first and fast at editing, with formal design training behind it. That training shows: it is what makes the content look like it comes from a seventy-year-old specialty brand, and it is what makes label and packaging design possible in-house.

They should enjoy being out in the business — in stores, on a plant floor, alongside people mid-shift — and be the kind of person others are happy to see coming with a camera. They should be curious about performance. Content here is measured, and one of its most rewarding jobs is reaching people who have not discovered Denninger’s yet.

They should be organized in a way that compounds. Assets that are well shot, well filed, and easy to find keep paying for years, and the person who builds that library is building something lasting.

And they should love food and the people who make it. The strongest content this company will produce is someone doing skilled work beautifully, filmed by someone who understands what they are watching.

Professional Experience

- 3–6 years creating content professionally, inhouse or agency-side
- A portfolio of short-form video from concept through final cut
- Formal design education or equivalent demonstrated training
- Experience owning a brand’s social presence
- Comfort working to a calendar and a plan

Industry Knowledge

- Food, hospitality, retail or another visually rich category is a solid advantage
- Understanding of how content connects to traffic and sales, not only engagement
- Appetite for learning a large and technical product catalogue

Technical Skills

- Video editing — Premiere Pro, Final Cut, CapCut or comparable — at speed
- Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
- Photography and lighting fundamentals; able to shoot on both a camera and a phone to a publishable standard
- Print and prepress understanding — dielines, bleeds, colour, working with printers
- Social publishing and scheduling tools, plus native platform analytics

Preferred Qualifications

- Packaging or label design experience, particularly food packaging
- Familiarity with Canadian food labeling requirements
- Experience producing in-store signage or point-of-purchase materials
- Food and product photograph
