Canadian Controller – Full time, Remote The Company

At Firm Five , we modernize bookkeeping and fractional controllership . We serve a client base of emerging businesses ($2M–$50M annual revenue) in Canada and the US , helping them not only maintain their financial reporting but also optimize and automate their financial processes . Our clients rely on us for all things accounting and administration (we don't do tax work), and we take pride in delivering clarity, efficiency, and financial insight.

We are looking for an experienced and strategic CPA who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and is eager to lead client relationships, build strong financial processes, and bring order to complexity.

The Role

Onboarding New Clients:

- Assessing and understanding client business operations and financial processes.
- Reviewing historical financials and leading cleanup and catch-up bookkeeping.
- Developing standardized processes and procedures for Staff Accountants to follow.
- Taking ownership of client relationships and ensuring a smooth transition into Firm Five’s service model.

Ongoing Monthly Responsibilities:

- Reviewing the work of Staff Accountants for accuracy and completeness.
- Presenting financial results to management and clients, providing insightful financial analysis to drive decision-making.
- Supporting FP&A; (Financial Planning & Analysis), including forecasting, budgeting, and scenario modelling.
- Monitoring AR/AP/Payroll processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.




- Leveraging technology and automation to improve financial workflows and KPI reporting.
- Educating clients on financial concepts and their company’s performance in a way that makes sense to them.

Additional Responsibilities:

- Supporting clients through process transitions and system implementations.
- Filing Canadian sales tax returns.
- Coordinating with US tax accountants and Canadian income tax professionals.

The Ideal Candidate

- We’re looking for a Canadian CPA with 3+ years of experience who embodies the following:
