As CSPC continues to expand its national reach and programming, we are seeking a highly organized qualified to strengthen CSPC’s non-partisan engagement with parliamentarians and legislatures at the federal and provincial levels, with primary responsibility for the Science Meets Parliament program and related parliamentary and legislative affairs.

Position Overview

CSPC is seeking a proactive and highly organized Coordinator, Parliamentary and Legislative Affairs,

to lead CSPC’s engagement with parliamentarians and legislative institutions at the federal and provincial levels. The position is grounded in CSPC’s non-partisan, non-advocacy mandate and is focused on relationship-building, program delivery, and creating opportunities for constructive interaction between Canada’s science, technology, and innovation community and elected representatives. The primary function of the role is to coordinate and expand CSPC’s Science Meets Parliament (SMP) programs at the federal and provincial levels.

The Coordinator will also engage parliamentarians and their staff in CSPC’s broader activities, including the annual conference, special events, regional initiatives, symposiums, and other programs.

Key Responsibilities

Science Meets Parliament (SMP) and Parliamentary Engagement

- Serve as the primary lead for Science Meets Parliament at the federal and provincial levels, coordinating the program from planning and parliamentary engagement through participant communications, delivery, and follow-up.
- Coordinate parliamentary and legislative participation in SMP, including outreach, scheduling, matching and meeting coordination, briefing materials,



and communications with participating scientists and parliamentarians.
- Support the expansion and consistent delivery of provincial Science Meets Parliament initiatives in collaboration with CSPC staff, partners, legislatures, and participating institutions.
- Build and maintain professional, non-partisan relationships with Members of Parliament, Senators, members of provincial legislatures, parliamentary and legislative staff, and relevant institutional offices across party lines.

Broader Parliamentary and Legislative Engagement

- Engage parliamentarians and legislative staff in CSPC’s broader activities, including the annual CSPC Conference, receptions, special events, regional programs, virtual symposiums, workshops, and other initiatives.
- Identify appropriate opportunities to connect parliamentarians with CSPC programs and the science, technology, and innovation policy community while maintaining CSPC’s non-partisan and non-advocacy role.
- Prepare invitations, correspondence, briefing notes, background materials, speaking notes, and other communications for engagement with parliamentary and legislative stakeholders.
- Coordinate parliamentarian participation in CSPC events, including invitations, confirmations, scheduling, protocol, event logistics, and follow-up.
- Provide logistical support to CSPC as needed for all the above activities.

Legislative Affairs, Research and Coordination

- Monitor parliamentary and legislative calendars, committee activities, institutional developments, and other relevant public information to support timely CSPC programming and engagement; this function is informational and relationship-focused and does not involve lobbying or advocacy.
- Conduct research and prepare concise background materials on parliamentary and legislative institutions, processes, committees, and relevant science, technology, and innovation policy matters to support the President & CEO and CSPC programs.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and databases of parliamentary, legislative, and program contacts, engagements, invitations, participation, and follow-up actions.

Qualifications & Experience

- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in parliamentary or legislative affairs or in the offices of elected officials or senators.

- Parliamentary and Legislative Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian federal and provincial legislative processes, institutions, protocols,



and government structures. Direct experience working with or engaging parliamentary or legislative offices is a strong asset.

- Stakeholder Relations: Proven ability to build trusted, professional relationships with parliamentarians, legislative staff, senior officials, academics, scientists, and other stakeholders while working in a strictly non-partisan and non-advocacy environment.

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, Science, or a related discipline.

- Skills:
- Exceptional organizational and project coordination skills, including the ability to manage multiple relationships, schedules, events, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, discretion, and political acuity;
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Zoom, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- A self-starter who can work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with CSPC staff, partners, and external stakeholders.
- Diplomatic, professional, detail-oriented, and comfortable engaging stakeholders across political parties and jurisdictions.
- Bilingual proficiency in French and English is a significant asset.

Employment Details

- Part-time, remote position with the potential to transition to a full-time role.
- 20 hours per week.
- The successful candidate must be available to work their scheduled hours during CSPC’s regular working hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET
- This is a fully remote position. The successful candidate is responsible for providing their own reliable computer and suitable home office setup required to perform the duties of the role.
