Job Summary
A Brief Overview
Reporting to the Associate Director, Communications & Digital Engagement, the Digital Communications Officer is a key role on the Queen's Health Sciences (QHS) Communications Team and is responsible for developing compelling and effective written and multi-media content and providing day-to-day oversight for QHS digital communication channels, specifically those for social media (earned/owned/paid) and email/newsletters. In addition, this position supports event promotion and would apply their strong graphic design skills to produce AODA-compliant content that fits within Queen's brand standards. The incumbent for this role uses their creativity,
expertise, and research skills to execute content strategy based on a deep understanding of digital platforms, communications planning, data analytics, and best practices.
The successful incumbent is a relationship-builder who is comfortable collaborating with diverse audiences; and has a strategic and audience-focused lens to effective communication.
This position acts as subject matter expert to advise on and investigate recent digital technologies, social media tools, trends, and applications. This position designs, produces, directs and/or scripts media-based content to support strategies and projects for the unit, and oversees the official social media accounts, including planning, developing, editing, scheduling and posting content. This position builds user engagement on official accounts, and monitors presence across social media channels.
This position also serves on the crisis management team, and advises, posts to and monitors social media channels during emergency situations.
What you will do
- Acts as subject matter expert to advise on and investigate new digital technologies, social media tools, trends, and applications.
- Designs, produces, directs and/or scripts media-based content to support strategies and projects for the unit.
- Oversees the official social media accounts, including planning, developing, editing, scheduling and posting content.
- Builds user engagement on official accounts, and monitors presence across social media channels.
- Serves on the crisis management team. Advises, posts to and monitors social media channels during emergency situations.
- Collaborates on issues management and public relations efforts.
- Measures and reports on engagement and other metrics for social platforms, leverages data to recommend improvements.
- Organizes event/facility photography and video production.
- Organizes electronic communications with external groups.
- Develops creative concepts including graphic design, editorial illustrations, infographics, icons, imagery, templates, layouts, promotional materials, instructional strategies, and visual graphics to support the branding, marketing, communication, and/or course objectives.
- Builds relationships and liaises with other departments, faculty, student leaders, external partners, and community resources.
- Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
Required Education
- Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.
Required Experience
- More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
- - Experience with web/graphics/audio/video editing tools is considered an asset.
- Experience with assessing emerging trends, technologies, electronic platforms and potential digital business opportunities considered an asset (e.g., social media, etc.).
- Experience in writing, interviewing, reviewing, editing and/or proofreading internal and/or external communications and documents considered an asset (e.g., social media, policy manuals, newsletters, handbooks, legal documents, forms/templates, blogs, training/reference materials, technical documents, webinars, etc.).
Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
