Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and dedicated individual to join our team as a Disability Support Worker. The successful candidate will provide person-centered support to adults with disabilities, promoting their independence, dignity, and well-being. The ideal candidate is patient, respectful, and non-judgmental, with solid communication and interpersonal skills.
They should be reliable, maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality, and be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. The ability to remain calm, patient, and supportive when responding to challenging situations is essential.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized support based on the client's needs, preferences, and goals.
- Assist with daily living activities and routines.
- Encourage independence, choice, and self-advocacy.
- Support participation in recreational, social, and community activities.
- Build trusting and respectful relationships with individuals and their families.
- Communicate effectively with caregivers and support teams.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
- Respond compassionately to challenges while maintaining professionalism and dignity
- Advocate for clients to ensure their needs, preferences,
and best interests are respected.
Experience
- Experience in community support, residential care, day programs, or group homes.
- Experience supporting individuals with complex or diverse needs.
- Experience developing and maintaining positive, respectful relationships with clients.
- Experience working collaboratively with families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and support teams (ASSET)
Education
- Child and Youth Care Diploma or Diploma of Social work
- Behavioural Science (ASSET)
- Psychology (ASSET)
- Community and Justice Services (ASSET)
