Mainstay provides owner’s representative and engineering support to clients managing capital construction projects. Our multidisciplinary team works collaboratively to deliver practical, high-quality solutions for our clients and project partners.
We are looking for an Intermediate Drafting Technologist, Electrical to join our growing team and provide drafting and technical design support to our Electrical Engineering Lead and project teams.
The Opportunity
As a Drafting Technologist, Electrical, you will support the development and delivery of electrical drawings and design documentation for current and future projects.
Working under the guidance of our Electrical Engineering Lead and alongside other members of our multidisciplinary team, you will turn engineering concepts, sketches, calculations, specifications and markups into accurate project drawings and documentation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technologist who is looking to build practical electrical drafting and design experience through a team atmosphere and hands-on project work.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and prepare electrical drawings, plans, diagrams, layouts and design sketches from engineering concepts, calculations, specifications and markups.
- Use CAD and other design software to prepare and revise accurate, high-quality project drawings and documentation.
- Assist with electrical design deliverables, including single-line diagrams, schematics, equipment layouts, cable routing and schedules.
- Support BIM development and multidisciplinary design coordination, where applicable.
- Complete drawing sets and documentation packages, incorporating engineering review comments and ensuring alignment with project and drafting standards.
- Assist with material quantities,
cost estimates, construction specifications, tender documents and technical documentation as required.
- Participate in design reviews, project coordination, field investigations and site visits to support project requirements.
- Work closely with the Electrical Engineering Lead and project team to identify and resolve drafting or coordination issues while building technical knowledge and taking on progressively more complex assignments.
What You Bring
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering Design & Drafting Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Four to nine years of relevant drafting, design or industry experience is preferred.
- Foundational knowledge of electrical systems and electrical design principles.
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software through education, co-op, internship or previous employment.
- Exposure to BIM/Revit would be considered an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, sketches and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and an interest in producing accurate, high-quality work.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Willingness to ask questions, receive feedback and continually develop technical skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
- Willingness to participate in site visits and fieldwork as required.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Experience or Exposure That Would Be an Asset Exposure to any of the following would be considered an asset:
- Industrial, mining or heavy industrial projects
- Electrical power and distribution systems
- AutoCAD or Revit
- Building Information Modelling (BIM)
- Single-line diagrams and electrical schematics
- Equipment layouts and cable routing
- Electrical building systems
- Construction drawing packages
- Material take-offs and estimating
- Construction or field environments
- Multidisciplinary engineering projects
What We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who is curious, detail-oriented and eager to learn.
You don't need to know everything on day one. We're looking for someone with a strong technical foundation who takes pride in their work, asks good questions and is willing to learn from experienced professionals.
You'll work closely with our Electrical Engineering Lead while developing your drafting and electrical design capabilities and gradually taking on more complex assignments as your knowledge, confidence and experience grow.

Pay: $31.00-$36.00 per hour
