My Time Studio is a Canadian screen-free self-care brand developing a unique series of adult hidden-reveal colouring books. I’m looking for a creative illustrator or design student to help develop the artwork for our first collection, Winter Feels.

These are not traditional colouring pages. Each page begins as a clean black-and-white illustration and is then divided into larger, easy-to-colour sections. Certain sections are marked for colouring while others remain white. As the user fills in the marked areas with a black marker, a hidden image gradually appears.

The artwork should feel adult, cozy and polished rather than childish, with:

- Clean, simplified black-and-white line art
- Large, clearly defined shapes and colouring sections — no tiny or overly intricate details
- Strong silhouettes, negative space and contrast so the final image reads beautifully in black and white
- Enough texture and visual interest to make the colouring process satisfying
- Designs suitable for an 8.5 × 11-inch printed colouring book and broad-tip markers

My Time Studio is a new small business, so the initial project budget is limited. However, I’m hoping to find the right person to grow with the brand. For a successful working relationship, the goal is to provide ongoing paid illustration work, with rates increasing as the business and product line grow.

Paid Trial Illustration

Selected applicants will be asked to complete one paid trial page before committing to a larger project.

Once I have selected a small number of applicants for the trial stage, I will provide sample pages and visual references to give you a much clearer idea of the overall look, feel and colouring experience I’m aiming to create. You will not be expected to interpret this unique concept from the written description alone.

The trial will be a winter scene featuring a dog outside in a snowy yard. The scene should feel warm, peaceful but fun — for example, a dog enjoying the snow outside with a wooden fence,

trees and optional other simple winter elements in the background. The viewpoint should be looking outside through a large window. The composition should be designed with the hidden-reveal colouring concept in mind, using larger shapes and avoiding tiny details.

The trial requires two versions of the same page:

BEFORE: The actual colouring page the customer would receive, showing the outlined sections and markings that indicate which areas should be coloured.

AFTER: The completed reveal, showing exactly what the finished image looks like once all marked areas have been coloured black.

The before and after should clearly demonstrate how the page transforms and how the hidden image is gradually revealed through colouring.

When applying, please include your expected rate for creating the paid trial page (including both the before and after versions), along with a few examples of relevant artwork or a portfolio link.

The goal is not simply to create a beautiful illustration. I’m looking for someone who can help create an engaging colour → reveal experience, where the finished black-and-white image is part of the surprise.

This project can develop into ongoing paid work for the right artist.

- Strong illustration and/or graphic design skills
- Strong understanding of composition, visual balance and negative space
- Ability to create an intentional and visually appealing balance between black and white areas
- Valuable understanding of contrast, shape, silhouette and visual hierarchy
- Ability to simplify an image while still keeping it interesting, polished and recognizable

- Comfortable creating clean black-and-white line art
- Ability to design with larger, clearly defined shapes rather than tiny or overly intricate details
- Ability to think creatively about how an image can transform or reveal itself as sections are coloured
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow visual references and creative direction
- Comfortable receiving feedback and making revisions
- Experience with digital illustration/design software such as Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or similar

Most importantly: I’m looking for someone with a strong visual eye who understands that the white space is just as important as the black space. The finished page needs to feel balanced and intentional both before and after the reveal.

How to Apply

Please submit the following by October 16, 2026:

- A brief introduction telling me a little about yourself and why this project interests you
- A portfolio link or a few examples of relevant illustration/design work
- The digital illustration/design software you are comfortable using
- Your expected rate for completing one paid trial page, including both the “before” colouring-page version and the completed “after” reveal

You do not need previous experience creating hidden-reveal colouring pages. I’m much more interested in finding someone with a strong eye for composition, black-and-white balance, negative space and simplified illustration who is excited to learn the concept.

A small number of applicants will be selected to complete the paid trial project. Those applicants will receive sample pages and visual references beforehand so they have a clear understanding of the look, feel and colouring experience I’m aiming for.

Please submit your application by Friday, October 16 2026.
