About the Role

We are looking for a French Instructor to provide K–12 students with primarily one-on-one French tutoring at our Markham location.

Students may be enrolled in Core French, French Immersion, or other school-based French programs, and their needs may vary depending on grade level, French proficiency, school curriculum, and individual learning goals.

The role focuses on helping students strengthen their French reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, and overall language proficiency, while also providing targeted support with school coursework, assignments, assessments, and areas where additional practice is needed.

Instructors are expected to adapt their teaching approach based on each student’s level and learning needs. Training, academic guidance, and administrative support will be provided.

Teaching Areas

Teaching areas may include one or more of the following:

French Reading & Comprehension

Support students in developing reading comprehension, vocabulary, text understanding, and age-appropriate reading skills.

French Writing & Grammar

Teach grammar, sentence structure, written expression, paragraph development, and age-appropriate academic writing.

Speaking & Communication

Help students strengthen pronunciation, listening comprehension, oral communication, and confidence using French in different contexts.

K–12 French Course Support

Provide customized support for students enrolled in Core French, French Immersion, or other school French programs, including help with coursework, homework, assignments, assessments, and individual learning goals.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide primarily one-on-one French instruction to K–12 students in an onsite setting.
- Support students enrolled in Core French, French Immersion, and other school-based French programs.
- Teach and reinforce French reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, listening, and oral communication skills.
- Help students understand and complete school coursework, homework, assignments,



and assessment preparation when needed.
- Adapt instruction based on students’ grade levels, French proficiency, school curriculum, and individual learning needs.
- Prepare for classes by reviewing relevant materials, student needs, and learning goals.
- Mark homework and assignments when required and provide clear, constructive feedback.
- Track student progress and communicate relevant updates to the academic and administrative teams as needed.
- Communicate with students and parents when necessary regarding learning progress, homework expectations, class performance, and academic goals.
- Participate in teacher training, academic discussions, or teaching material improvement when needed.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in French, French Studies, French Literature, Education, Linguistics, Languages, or a closely related field.
- Solid French proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary.
- Ability to explain French language concepts clearly and in an age-appropriate way to K–12 students.
- Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or otherwise working with school-aged students.
- Ability to adapt instruction based on students’ grade levels, French proficiency, school curriculum, and individual learning needs.
- Strong communication skills, professional reliability, and comfort working with children, teenagers, parents, and academic teams.
- Regular availability to teach onsite at our Markham location, especially after 4:00 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s or PhD degree in French, French Studies, French Literature, Education, Linguistics, Languages, or a related field.
- Experience teaching or tutoring K–12 students in Core French and/or French Immersion.
- Experience supporting students with French reading, writing, grammar, oral communication, homework, assignments, and school assessments.
- Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) certification is an asset.
- Experience teaching students across multiple grade levels is an asset.
- Experience providing one-on-one tutoring or individualized academic support is an asset.

Schedule & Location This is an onsite teaching role based at our Markham office.

Classes are scheduled based on student enrollment and program needs. Most teaching hours take place after school on weekdays,



especially after 4:00 p.m., and on weekends.

Candidates with regular weekday evening and weekend availability will be prioritized.

Compensation & Support

Compensation: CAD $25.00–$60.00 per hour, based on academic background, teaching experience, teaching areas, and overall fit.

Instructors will receive relevant student information, teaching resources, academic guidance, and administrative support as needed.

Training will be provided to help instructors become familiar with Sister Sophie’s teaching expectations and class procedures.

Strong instructors may have opportunities over time to take on additional teaching responsibilities or contribute to academic development initiatives.
