Better Business Books Inc. is a full-service accounting and bookkeeping company serving small businesses and individuals in Hamilton and surrounding communities. We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented, and experienced Full-Cycle Bookkeeper to join our accounting team and support bookkeeping and financial administration for multiple clients.
Job Summary The Full-Cycle Bookkeeper will be responsible for managing day-to-day bookkeeping activities from accounts payable and accounts receivable through bank reconciliations, payroll, financial reporting, and account analysis.
The successful candidate will maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, identify and resolve discrepancies, and provide dependable accounting support to our team and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full-cycle bookkeeping for small business clients.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Record and classify financial transactions accurately.
- Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial accounts.
- Maintain accurate and organized accounting records.
- Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements.
- Process weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly payroll as required.
- Prepare payroll-related documents, including source deductions, T4s and Records of Employment (ROEs).
- Assist with GST/HST calculations, filings, and other government remittances.
- Prepare account analysis and supporting schedules for financial review.
- Monitor client accounts and follow up on outstanding items when required.
- Assist with budgeting, expense tracking, and basic financial analysis.
- Maintain client records and ensure documentation is complete and organized.
- Communicate professionally with clients, vendors, and government agencies when required.
- Assist with year-end accounting and tax preparation.
- Maintain confidentiality of client financial and personal information.
- Perform other accounting and bookkeeping duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- 2+ years of Canadian bookkeeping or accounting experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of full-cycle bookkeeping.
- Experience with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
- Experience with Canadian GST/HST and payroll requirements.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero.
- Solid understanding of Canadian bookkeeping principles and accounting procedures.
- Experience preparing financial statements is an asset.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client files and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a small accounting team.
- High level of confidentiality and professionalism.
Education
- Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Canadian accounting/bookkeeping education or equivalent experience is an asset.
Pay: $30.75-$31.91 per hour Expected hours: 45.0 per week
