Health Centre Nurse
Permanent, Part-Time Position (0.45 FTE), starting October 2026

St. Michaels University School (SMUS) is seeking a part-time Nurse to join our dynamic and high-functioning Health Centre department. Reporting to the Head Nurse, the Health Centre Nurse is part of a team that supports the day-to-day operations of the Health Centre, which attends to the clinical care of SMUS boarding students from Grades 9 to 12.
Work Schedule:
As a Boarding school, we provide access to medical care 24 hours a day, seven days a week for Boarding students. On weekdays, our Nurses work both day and evening shifts between the hours of 7:30 am and 9:30 pm. Weekend shifts are 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, and occasional overnight care may be required to look after students. We are a smaller team that requires flexibility in scheduling to ensure the care of the students is covered.
The school and health centre are closed for winter break, spring break and summer break.
Responsibilities include:
- Provides health care such as first aid treatment for minor ailments and injuries and administering both over the counter and prescription medications.
- Attend to injured or sick students on campus as needed.
- Supporting students Mental Well-being.
- Refers students to the school doctor, liaises with outside medical specialties, therapists, dental, ophthalmic or other health related appointments for boarding students.
- Provides preventative health care,
promotion of health and health awareness through seminars.
- Liaises with other health care professionals in the community.
- Refers students to the school counselors when appropriate.
- Performs administrative functions, such as maintaining emergency equipment, ordering supplies, maintaining electronic student files including medication needs, immunization records and allergy lists.
- Ability to work with digital medical records.
- Ability to be flexible as needs and shifts may change.
Experience and Qualifications:
- This position requires a current membership in good standing with the BC College of Nursing Professionals along with a minimum of two years’ experience in a related position.
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or a Licensed Practical Nursing diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Current CPR Level C certification.
- Adherence to the BC Standards for Nursing Practice.
- Proactive approach to preventative health care.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, with internal and external customers.
- Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgment, and work as a positive and cooperative team member.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, teachers, parents and staff.
- Ability to identify and assist students with emotional and other health concerns.
- Organized,
with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Enthusiastic, energetic, a self-starter with the ability to work independently.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Pay Range: In-clinic pay range is $32.84 to $41.35 per hour (LPN1) or $36.58 - $55.91 (RN3) per hour. The on-call rate of pay is $7.00 per hour. Please note that this position does not qualify for group benefits.
Criminal Record Check:
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
