The Position
Under the general supervision of the Human Resources Manager or designate, the Human Resources Coordinator provides day-to-day HR administrative support. The role contributes to the development and maintenance of the HR function. You will support the HR team in delivering comprehensive HR services to managers and employees across the Nation.
In this multi-faceted role, you will demonstrate a high degree of professional maturity and a positive attitude. This position relies heavily on project management support (task management), using various computer systems and applications to input, track, and update the Nation’s HR tasks. The ability to take the initiative and maintain confidentiality is necessary to succeed in this role.
This is a 6-month full-time position with the possibility of an extension.
The Candidate
- With direction, provide administrative support for the HR Department and its core functions across recruitment, induction, performance management, employment relations, HR policy and procedures, learning and development, and health and safety.
- Demonstrate the ability to use office software to create, format and edit forms and presentations.
- Accurately and consistently apply Nation policies and guidelines to electronic records management, physical records management and disposal, and faxing information.
- Receive, screen and direct telephone calls.
- Review and prioritize incoming correspondence directed to the HR Department,
reroute or copy as appropriate and/or attach relevant files or related correspondence.
- Prepare professional and confidential correspondence, memos and documents as requested.
- Photocopy and file documents as needed and requested.
- Schedule and document dates of meetings, and record notes during meetings.
- Assist with special projects when required.
- Personal willingness and ability to work in and adapt to change.
- Maintain and present a positive and skilled image of the executive office at all times.
- Must be able to handle sensitive information in a completely confidential manner.
- Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position and as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
- A post-secondary degree or diploma with an HR focus, supplemented by at least 1 year of similar experience, preferably in an Indigenous organization, or an acceptable combination of equivalent education, training or experience in related fields. A CHRP designation would be an asset.
- Relevant legislation and regulations, including knowledge of Employment Standards, Human Rights, Accessibility and Occupational Health and Safety regulations, is an asset.
- Considerable knowledge of Human Resources activities, including health & safety, recruitment, orientation, investigation processes and employee relations; excellent computer skills.
- Present self professionally and ethically; effective communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- A driver's license and access to a car. An acceptable Criminal Record Check.
