Commercial HVAC/R Service Technician

RackAir is looking for a strong commercial HVAC/R technician to join our Kingston team.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in being good at the trade, can walk into a mechanical room and figure things out, communicates well with customers, and wants to be part of a company that is growing.

RackAir has been operating in Eastern Ontario for decades, and we’re now expanding across the GTA as well. Our Kingston branch continues to be a major part of the company and we’re adding another technician to strengthen the team.

Most of our work is commercial, institutional, multi-residential and long-term care. You’ll be working on everything from rooftop units, boilers and heat pumps to VRF systems, cooling towers, refrigeration and controls.

The work is varied. You won’t be stuck doing the same thing every day.

The Role

You’ll be trusted to run your own service calls, troubleshoot equipment properly, make repairs, complete preventive maintenance and identify issues before they become bigger problems.

We want technicians who think through a problem instead of immediately changing parts.

You should be comfortable talking to building operators, property managers and customers, explaining what you found and making clear recommendations.

We have a strong office and operations team behind our technicians, but we also expect people in the field to take ownership of their work from start to finish.

Compensation

This is a UA Local 787 union position with the applicable union wage and benefit package.

For a licensed journeyperson, the current package includes:

- $60 /hour base wage
- Pension contributions

The overall compensation package is significantly higher than the hourly wage alone.





Who We’re Looking For The successful candidate must hold:

- 313A Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic licence
- Gas Technician 1 (G1) licence
- Valid Ontario driver's licence

We’re especially interested in technicians who are strong in:
- Commercial HVAC/R troubleshooting
- Refrigeration
- Electrical diagnostics
- Boilers and hydronics
- Rooftop equipment
- VRF/VRV systems
- Commercial refrigeration
- Controls and building automation

This role is best suited to someone with solid commercial service experience who is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of customer sites.
