HVAC Apprentice – 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Year

West Coast Heating and AC Inc. is looking for motivated HVAC Apprentices – 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Year to join our growing field team in Calgary. We are looking for people who want to build a long-term career in HVAC and develop their skills by working alongside experienced Journeypersons on commercial, multi-residential, construction, retrofit, and service projects. Whether you are just starting your apprenticeship or are approaching Journeyperson status, we are interested in candidates who are dependable, safety-conscious, willing to learn, and take pride in doing quality work.
What You’ll Do
Depending on your apprenticeship level and experience, responsibilities may include:
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of HVAC equipment and systems.
- Work on rooftop units, furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, make-up air units, split systems, exhaust systems, and related mechanical equipment.
- Assist with refrigeration piping, condensate piping, duct connections, controls, and associated components.
- Support equipment start-up, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Read and work from mechanical drawings, specifications, equipment manuals, and instructions.
- Assist Journeypersons with diagnosing HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, airflow, and control-related issues.
- Perform preventative maintenance and equipment inspections.
- Assist with commercial HVAC construction, retrofit, and replacement projects.
- Load, unload, move, and organize equipment, materials, and tools.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Properly use and care for company tools, equipment, and materials.
- Complete work orders, equipment information, and other field documentation as required.
- Follow instructions from Journeypersons, Foremen, and Project Managers.
- Coordinate safely with other trades and site personnel.
- Follow West Coast safety procedures and all applicable site requirements.
- Represent West Coast Heating and AC Inc. professionally while working at customer and project sites.

Requirements
- Registered HVAC/Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic apprentice,
or eligible and committed to entering the apprenticeship program.
- Genuine interest in building a career in the HVAC trade.
- Solid mechanical aptitude.
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Ability to work safely and efficiently.
- Comfortable working with hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work associated with the HVAC trade.
- Comfortable working on rooftops, ladders, mechanical rooms, construction sites, and similar environments.
- Ability to work independently when appropriate and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Valid Alberta driver's licence is preferred.
- Reliable transportation to work or designated meeting locations.
Experience We Value The following are considered assets but are not required for all apprenticeship levels:
- Previous HVAC experience.
- Commercial HVAC experience.
- Construction experience.
- Refrigeration experience.
- Sheet metal experience.
- Electrical or controls experience.
- Experience with rooftop units or make-up air systems.
- Experience with heat pumps or VRF/VRV systems.
- Gasfitting experience.
- Previous experience working with hand and power tools.
- First Aid.
- Fall Protection.
- WHMIS.
- Aerial Work Platform certification.
- Other relevant trade or safety training.
