Inside Sales Representative Position Overview The Inside Sales Representative is responsible for proactively developing Atlantic’s managed PRO customer base through consistent, organized outreach. While Technical Sales works primarily in the field with larger accounts, job-site opportunities, and technical needs, Inside Sales provides the daily relationship-management engine that keeps customers engaged, purchasing consistently, and progressing.
The role is primarily phone and system based. Each day, the Inside Sales Representative works from the PRO Daily Call List in AtlanticOS, contacting accounts that require attention based on scheduled call frequency, new-account status, changes in purchasing behaviour, or other identified opportunities.
The objective is simple: know our customers, understand what work they have coming up, earn more of their business, and make sure valuable opportunities do not go unnoticed.
Key Responsibilities
PRO Account Development
- Proactively contact assigned and managed PRO accounts.
- Understand the customer’s business, typical work, purchasing patterns, products used, and upcoming projects.
- Identify opportunities to increase purchasing frequency, product categories, and overall account revenue.
- Follow up on quotations, product inquiries, upcoming jobs, and previous conversations.
- Reactivate customers whose purchasing activity has declined or stopped.
- Help new PRO customers become properly profiled, engaged, and established with Atlantic.
Daily Call Management
- Work the PRO Daily Call List each day and complete required customer outreach.
- Respond to calls generated by:
- Scheduled account contact frequency.
- New account onboarding.
- Order-cadence outliers or changes in normal purchasing behaviour.
- Internal referrals or identified opportunities.
- Record meaningful activity, information learned, opportunities identified, and next actions in AtlanticOS.
- Maintain clear follow-up dates so opportunities and commitments do not get lost.
Sales & Relationship Management
- Build solid relationships through consistent, useful communication rather than simply making check-in calls.
- Ask about upcoming jobs and help customers plan products, quantities, pricing, availability, and delivery.
- Introduce relevant products and services that can help the customer or increase Atlantic’s share of their purchasing.
- Coordinate with stores to ensure customers receive reliable order fulfillment and service.
- Maintain consistent contact with customers even when they are not actively placing orders.
Technical Sales Coordination
- Identify accounts and opportunities that require face-to-face involvement from Technical Sales.
- Book or coordinate site visits for new, developing, or high-potential PRO accounts.
- Escalate significant opportunities, competitive conversions, technical requirements, job-site issues, or declining key relationships.
- Keep Technical Sales informed of meaningful account developments and opportunities discovered through daily conversations.
Inside Sales remains responsible for maintaining the communication rhythm around the account; Technical Sales provides the field presence and higher-level technical or relationship support where it adds value.
Role Boundaries
Inside Sales is not intended to replace the stores or Technical Sales.
Stores remain responsible for serving inbound customers and fulfilling orders. Technical Sales handles significant field relationships, job-site involvement, technical problem solving, major opportunities, and higher-value account development.
Inside Sales connects those functions by ensuring that our PRO customer base is being deliberately and consistently developed rather than waiting for customers to contact us.
Key Performance Indicators
- Assigned portfolio revenue
- Gross profit
- PRO customer retention
- Purchasing frequency / consistency
- New and reactivated PRO customers
- Meaningful customer contacts
- Opportunities identified and advanced
- Qualified Technical Sales appointments generated
- AtlanticOS activity and follow-up completion
Performance Expectations A strong Inside Sales Representative is organized, persistent, personable, commercially minded, and comfortable spending a significant portion of each day on the phone. Success is not measured simply by the number of calls made. The expectation is that those calls produce better customer knowledge, stronger relationships, more opportunities, increased purchasing consistency, and ultimately greater revenue and gross profit. The Inside Sales Representative should operate with the mindset that no valuable PRO account should quietly disappear, slow down, or present an opportunity without us noticing and acting on it.
