We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Legal Assistant (Real Estate and Corporate law) to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will support lawyers in managing real estate and corporate/commercial files.
The role is a part-time legal assistant position but will eventually develop into a full time role including legal assistant and paralegal tasks over time.
The successful applicant will be organized, dedicated to helping our clients and motivated to seeing their hard work translate into positive results for our clients. This requires excellent administrative, communication, and people-handling skills.
Please note this is an in-office position.
Legal assistant tasks will include, among others
- Answering the phone
- Quoting client inquiries
- Scanning and printing of documents
- Document drafting and editing with Word and Adobe
- Preparing monthly invoices
- Preparing and performing monthly bank reconciliation and reporting
- Electronic and physical file organization
Paralegal tasks will include, among others
- File management from start to finish (communication with clients, realtors, brokers, conducting title and tax searches etc., drafting legal documents, preparing and assisting in closings)
- Drafting and filing of annual corporate governance documents such as resolutions and annual returns
- Legal research when required
Skills
- Real Estate Paralegal experience is an asset
- CORES certification is an asset
- Excellent grammatical, spelling, proofreading skills with keen attention to detail
- Familiarity with conveyancing software
- Strong project management abilities to coordinate multiple files efficiently
- Ability to empathize with, and handle client inquiries
- Ability to prepare corporate resolutions and filings with limited supervision after training
- Ability to manage Real Estate files with limited supervision after training
- Proficiency with document management systems like Clio, PCLaw, along with word processing, and Adobe
- Bookkeeping and accounting skills
Expected hours: 20.0 per week
