Job Summary
Inspired2Read is looking for a passionate and dedicated Reading Specialist / Literacy Instructor to provide in-person, individualized structured literacy instruction in Richmond Hill, Ontario to children who struggle with reading and writing, including students with dyslexia and other learning differences.
The successful candidate will use the Orton-Gillingham approach to create individualized lessons, develop engaging materials, monitor student progress, and build positive relationships with students and their families.
This position requires a commitment of at least 12 hours per week for a minimum of one full calendar year, as well as participation in ongoing career development and monthly training.
Duties
- Create individualized lesson plans based on each student’s needs, abilities, and learning goals
- Develop and adapt instructional materials and activities to support student learning
- Provide structured, engaging, and individualized literacy instruction using the Orton-Gillingham approach
- Teach students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and other learning differences
- Communicate effectively with students to support understanding, engagement, and confidence
- Monitor and document student progress and learning outcomes on an ongoing basis
- Communicate professionally and collaboratively with parents and the Inspired2Read team regarding student progress and needs
- Participate in monthly professional development and training
Qualifications
- Orton-Gillingham training or a willingness to complete Orton-Gillingham training
- Experience using structured, evidence-based literacy instruction informed by the Science of Reading
- Experience working with children who have dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, autism, or other learning differences
- Knowledge and understanding of dyslexia and learning disabilities
- Post-secondary education in education, psychology, linguistics, speech-language studies, or a related field is an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patient, compassionate, and committed to building positive relationships with students and their families
- A genuine love of working with children and helping them build confidence and develop their literacy skills
- Ability to commit to working with our students at least 12 hours per week for a minimum of one full calendar year
