About Pentalift Equipment Corporation:

Pentalift Equipment Corporation manufactures loading dock and material handling equipment, including dock levelers, vehicle restraints, dock lifts and lift tables.

We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Improvement Manager with a strong hands-on background in metal fabrication and manufacturing improvement.

Position Focus The primary purpose of this position is to improve how our products are manufactured.

This is a hands-on shop-floor role, not primarily an office, administrative, purchasing or expediting position. The successful candidate will spend a significant portion of each day on the manufacturing floor working directly with welders, fitters, machine operators and assemblers.

Our environment is low-to-medium volume, high-mix fabricated steel equipment involving welding, fitting, forming, machining, hydraulic/electrical assembly and final assembly. You must be willing and able to become directly involved in these processes, including personally performing selected operations (including welding) where qualified and appropriate.

The successful candidate must be able to take manufacturing improvement opportunities from identification through implementation and measurable completion.

Primary Responsibilities

- Maintain a strong daily presence on the manufacturing floor in the work cells for extended period of time and work directly with production employees to understand current methods.
- Personally perform or assist with selected manufacturing operations (including welding), where qualified and appropriate, to understand the work and test improvements.
- Reduce manufacturing labour hours and improve productivity, throughput and material flow.
- Improve welding, fitting, fabrication, forming, machining and assembly methods and sequences.
- Develop and improve or suggest improvements for fixtures, tooling and workstation layouts.
- Identify and remove bottlenecks, unnecessary handling, movement, waiting and other non-value-added activity.
- Conduct time observations, establish baseline performance and measure before-and-after results.

- Test proposed changes directly on the shop floor with production employees.
- Follow improvement projects through repeated trials until fully implemented and producing the expected result.
- Maintain a prioritized list of active improvement projects with target dates and expected benefits.
- Identifying a problem or recommending an improvement is not considered completion. The expectation is that improvement projects are implemented, verified and measured.

Hands-On Manufacturing Requirement The successful candidate must be comfortable:

- Performing or assisting with welding, fitting, fabrication and assembly operations where qualified.
- Working at manufacturing workstations to understand the actual process and try revised methods.
- Reviewing drawings and measuring components, layouts, work areas and process times at the workstation.
- Developing practical concepts for fixtures, tooling and workstation improvements and working alongside production employees through implementation.

Manufacturing Leadership The role also includes setting manufacturing priorities, providing leadership to supervisors and employees, monitoring labour productivity and throughput, and ensuring successful improvements become standardized manufacturing methods.

Normal day-to-day production issues will arise, but purchasing, parts expediting and administrative tasks must not displace the primary responsibility for hands-on manufacturing improvement.

Required Experience The preferred candidate will have:

- Significant hands-on manufacturing experience in a metal fabrication and welding environment.
- Robust practical experience with welding, fitting, fabrication and mechanical assembly.

- The willingness and ability to personally perform manufacturing tasks when necessary to understand and improve a process.
- Demonstrated success implementing manufacturing improvements with measurable results.
- Experience reducing labour content and improving throughput, flow or manufacturing efficiency.
- Experience developing or improving fixtures, tooling, manufacturing methods or workstation layouts.
- Strong ability to read manufacturing drawings and solve practical shop-floor problems.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and project-management training are assets, but completed hands-on manufacturing improvements are more important than certifications.

What We Will Ask You About

Candidates should be prepared to discuss specific manufacturing improvements they personally completed, including:

- What was being manufactured, what was the problem and how closely were you personally involved?
- What did you change in the tooling, fixtures, layout, sequence or work method?
- How was the change implemented, and what were the measurable before-and-after results?

Viable candidates may also be asked to spend time on the Pentalift manufacturing floor reviewing an actual operation and discussing how they would approach improving it.

What Success Looks Like

Success means being able to regularly point to completed shop-floor improvements and demonstrate what changed, what you personally did to implement the change and the measurable improvement achieved.

If you enjoy being directly involved in manufacturing and personally driving practical shop-floor improvements through to completion, we would like to hear from you.

In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, should you require accommodation throughout any aspects of the selection process, please contact the HR department and we will provide support.

Note: This position is posted to fill an existing vacancy.

Note: A.I. maybe used to process submissions.

Pay: $85,000.00-$105,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
