Help build Fabco’s in-house estimating capabilities. Fabco Plastics is an industrial plastics wholesaler seeking a Mechanical Estimator to prepare material takeoffs, bills of materials, and quotation packages for industrial, commercial, and institutional construction projects.

Based at our Acheson branch, you will work with branch leadership and sales to identify project opportunities and support the bidding process—from reviewing drawings and specifications to preparing competitive quotations and handing off awarded projects.

This is a newly created position with the opportunity to help evaluate estimating software, develop templates, and establish practical workflows with management.

What You’ll Do

- Review mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams, specifications, and tender addenda to determine material requirements and Fabco’s scope of supply.
- Complete detailed quantity takeoffs and bills of materials for piping, fittings, valves, pumps, instrumentation, ductwork, grating, sheet materials, and fabricated components within Fabco’s product offering.
- Obtain supplier pricing, availability, lead times, and technical information to prepare accurate estimating and quotation packages.
- Review proposed products against project specifications and applicable standards, documenting assumptions and exclusions and flagging discrepancies or alternatives for approval.
- Monitor digital construction project boards and tender portals, sharing relevant opportunities and bidding contacts with branch sales teams.
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and Fabco branches to resolve questions, manage revisions, and meet tender deadlines.
- Maintain organized estimate records and support quotation follow-up and the handoff of awarded projects to sales and operations.




- Help select estimating tools and establish consistent templates, procedures, and a process for managing branch requests.

What You Bring

- Experience in mechanical estimating, plumbing or HVAC estimating, or industrial construction material takeoffs.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and tender documents.
- Working knowledge of piping systems, fittings, valves, and related mechanical components.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and digital takeoff or drawing-review software, such as Bluebeam, FastPIPE, FastDUCT, or comparable tools.
- Strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines.
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with customers, suppliers, and branch teams.
- Confidence working independently and helping develop practical processes in a new role.

Assets

- Experience with industrial plastics, including PVC, CPVC, PVDF, polypropylene, and fibre-reinforced plastics.
- Familiarity with construction project boards and tender platforms.
- Experience developing estimating templates or workflows.
- Relevant technical education or a trade background. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
