About the Role

At Huron Technologies, we develop advanced digital slide scanners that combine precision motion, automated slide handling, optics, electronics, and software to meet the demanding requirements of modern pathology workflows.

We are looking for a Mechatronics and Systems Integration Engineer to help turn ambitious scanner designs into reliable, manufacturable products. This is a hands-on engineering role where you will build and troubleshoot prototypes, investigate system-level problems, develop automated tests, and help transition new designs into production.

You will work closely with mechanical, electrical, optical, software, and manufacturing engineers. You will take ownership of defined integration and improvement projects, with support and technical mentorship from experienced engineers as you develop your expertise.

Duties and responsibilities

- Build, integrate and troubleshoot scanner prototypes and subsystems, including stages, motors, sensors, cameras, optics and slide handling mechanisms. Work with specialists to resolve issues at hardware and software interfaces.
- Plan and run focused experiments to isolate root causes. Use measurements, logs and image data to investigate issues such as vibration, positioning repeatability, alignment drift, cable wear and recovery from faults.
- Scripting to automate tests, exercise hardware, analyse data and make calibration more repeatable. Collaborate with software developers when a solution requires product software changes.
- Turn defined requirements into test procedures and measurable acceptance criteria. Execute performance,

endurance and regression tests; document results and verify that fixes work without introducing new problems.
- Develop and refine assembly, alignment and calibration methods, fixtures and work instructions with manufacturing. Help a small production team build scanners consistently with less adjustment and rework.
- Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments and controlled engineering changes. Maintain clear test records and technical documentation within our quality management system, and use manufacturing and service feedback to improve the design.
- You will own scoped tasks and progressively larger subsystems. Senior engineers will guide architecture, technical tradeoffs and review of your work.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

- A master’s degree in mechatronics, systems design, mechanical or electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline is preferred, but individuals with a bachelor’s accompanied by a strong portfolio of engineering projects will be considered.
- 1–4 years of relevant hands-on experience in product development, robotics, automation, instrumentation or a related field. Strong new graduates with substantial co-op, research or project experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Evidence that you can build and troubleshoot real hardware. In your application, explain a problem you investigated, your approach, and how you verified the result.

- A solid foundation in electromechanical systems and an interest in how mechanical behaviour, electronics and software affect one another. You are comfortable reading drawings and basic schematics and using appropriate bench tools safely.
- Working ability in multiple programming languages for testing, hardware control, or data analysis. You write code that others can understand and maintain.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- A systematic approach to experiments, careful documentation and clear communication. You ask practical questions, raise risks early, and follow through on agreed priorities.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication styles within a highly dynamic and diverse engineering team.

Experience in the following areas would be an asset

- Precision motion, motor tuning, robotics, sensors, or automated handling systems.
- Microscopy, machine vision, camera integration, optical alignment, or image quality measurement.
- CAD such as SolidWorks, fixture design, tolerances or design for assembly and service.
- Experience with Visual Studios, C or C++, hardware communication, version control, or automated test frameworks.

Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
