Structured Cabling and Systems Integration Technician

Full-time | Permanent | Field-based
Location: Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph, Cambridge, Stratford and surrounding areas, with occasional longer-distance travel
Compensation: $65,000–$80,000 per year, based on experience, technical capability and certifications

Brak Innovations Inc. is a growing systems integration company providing technology solutions across industrial, commercial, institutional, hospitality and agricultural environments.
Our work includes access control, security systems, IP cameras, structured cabling, fibre optics, wireless networks, telephony, networking and other integrated IP systems.
We are looking for an experienced Structured Cabling and Systems Integration Technician who can contribute across multiple areas of our business and is comfortable taking ownership of work in the field.
This is not an entry-level position.
The right candidate will have strong hands-on experience, solid troubleshooting skills and the ability to arrive at a customer site, understand the scope of work, organize the job and move it forward with confidence.
What You’ll Do
Depending on the project, responsibilities may include:
- Install, configure, service and troubleshoot access control systems
- Install door controllers, card readers, electric strikes, magnetic locks, door contacts, request-to-exit devices and related hardware
- Install and service security, intrusion, intercom, gate and perimeter systems
- Install, configure and troubleshoot IP cameras and video surveillance systems
- Install, terminate, test and certify CAT5e, CAT6 and CAT6A structured cabling
- Install single-mode and multimode fibre optic cabling
- Complete fibre termination, fusion splicing and testing where qualified
- Install racks, cabinets, cable tray, conduits and related infrastructure
- Install wireless access points, networking equipment and IP devices
- Support VoIP, telephone and paging installations
- Program, test and commission systems within your area of expertise
- Diagnose wiring, device, network and system issues in the field
- Review drawings, scopes of work and technical documentation
- Complete accurate service reports,
testing results and project documentation
- Coordinate professionally with customers, contractors and other trades
- Maintain clean, organized and professional installations
Experienced technicians may also provide technical direction to other installers or technicians working on-site.
What We’re Looking For
We are open to both Intermediate and Senior-level technicians.
Intermediate Technician
Typically brings
- 3+ years of relevant hands-on field experience
- Experience in one or more of access control, security systems, structured cabling, fibre optics, CCTV/IP cameras, telecommunications or related low-voltage systems
- Ability to independently complete familiar installation and service work
- Strong installation and troubleshooting fundamentals
- Interest in developing across additional technologies and systems
Senior Technician
Typically brings
- 5+ years of progressively responsible field experience
- Strong access control, security and/or systems integration experience
- Ability to independently install, configure, troubleshoot and commission systems
- Ability to take ownership of jobs from start through completion
- Strong structured cabling and IP/network fundamentals
- Experience reading drawings, wiring diagrams and technical documentation
- Confidence troubleshooting and making sound technical decisions in the field
- Ability to work directly with customers, contractors and project stakeholders
- Ability to provide technical support or direction to other team members when required
Experience That Will Stand Out Experience in several of the following areas is considered an asset:
- Access control systems
- Door controllers, readers and locking hardware
- CCTV and IP surveillance
- Security and intrusion systems
- Structured cabling
- Fibre optic installation, fusion splicing and testing
- IP networking
- Wireless infrastructure
- Intercom systems
- Telephony and VoIP
- Gates and perimeter detection
- Systems programming and commissioning
- Advanced troubleshooting
Manufacturer certifications and experience working in commercial or industrial environments are also strong assets. You do not need to be an expert in every technology Brak works with. We are looking for experienced technicians with strong technical fundamentals who can contribute immediately and continue building their skills across our systems.
Requirements
Candidates must have
- Valid Ontario G driver’s licence with a clean driving record
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Solid customer-service and communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Ability to safely complete the physical requirements of field installation work
- Ability to meet customer security-screening requirements where applicable
- Flexibility for occasional overtime, after-hours or weekend work based on project requirements
Current or previous certifications such as Working at Heights, Elevated Work Platform, WHMIS, Worker Health and Safety Awareness, fibre optic training or manufacturer-specific certifications are considered assets.
