AREA: Nursing Office
CLASSIFICATION: Nursing Supervisor
POSITION SCOPE: Under the direction of the Director of Client Care (In-Centre) the Nursing Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring a high quality of nursing care for 200 participants of the In-Centre and Community Options programs. Working as a collaborative member of our medical, nursing and leadership team, the Nursing Supervisor provides direction and support to front-line staff and clients consistent with the mission, vision, and philosophy of CORE Support Services.
The Nursing
Supervisor is directly responsible for clients, staff and building safety for CORE on evenings and weekends. They coordinate client care and services in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Overall operation of the Centre after hours, holidays, weekends and anytime Senior Management are not present.
- Provide direction, supervision and support to enhance client centered relationships.
- Assume a leadership role during crisis (medical, environmental or logistical).
- Supports nursing practice and client care.
- Creates an workplace in which cooperation, professional growth and mutual respect can flourish.
- Identify, report, and help resolve performance issues in accordance to CORE Support Services policies and collective agreements with CUPE and NSNU.
- Collaborates with the OHN in relation to the IPAC initiatives.
- Works in collaboration with internal and external resources during emergency response codes to take a leadership role directing, supervising delegating and communicating.
- Encourages and participates in continuous improvement in all work-related activities.
- Ensures Quality and Safety standards involving Risk, OH&S; and Human Resources are being met and/or maintained.
- Contributes to CORE Support Services' organizational goals of eliminating accidents and/or incidents in the workplace.
- Maintains a personal and professional commitment to ensuring and maintaining a respectful workplace.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of a baccalaureate program in nursing or a diploma in nursing. Currently licensed (or eligibility for licensing) with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN). Knowledge and/or experience in the field of mental health, intellectual disabilities, addiction, children, and geriatrics an asset. Availability to work weekdays, weekends and holidays; shift work; days, evenings and nights. Required to provide Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check. Regular and consistent attendance is required. Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and communicate general business correspondence, instruction and data related information. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Managers, other employees, clients, and families. Ability to make decisions which are of a critical nature and which demonstrate excellent judgment ability. Also possesses analytical and creative critical thinking skills that will enhance problem solving and decision-making. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and data furnished in written, oral, diagram and/or schedule form. Must Possess excellent judgment and decision-making skills. Must be able to assess situations as they arise and implement appropriate course(s) of action for self and others. Be self-motivated, take initiative, and be creative and flexible. Have the ability to manage staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage and safety at all times. Have leadership skills with the ability to direct and delegate duties and responsibilities.
