Reporting to: Dean, Health SciencesHuman Services

Salary:

$50.07 – $56.75 per hour depending on experience and qualifications in accordance with the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% on all regular earnings in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay day.

Description:

NLC's Indigenous Human Service Worker Certificate (IHSW) prepare graduates for employment as a Human Service Worker, with a focus on serving Indigenous people. Students develop culturally appropriate knowledge, skills, and values while working with individuals, groups, and communities.

NLC is seeking a temporary part time instructor to deliver the following course:

IHSW 102 – The Indigenous Family and Parenting

This course provides an overview of Indigenous families from historical and contemporary perspectives with an emphasis on parenting practices, issues, and applications.

The course will include the following modules: Indigenous perspectives on family and parenting; personal histories and experiences of parenting; the effects of colonization on the Indigenous family system; parenting stressors; family resiliency, attitudes, skills and practices for healthy parenting, parenting and self care; parent-education programs.

Delivery: this course will be delivered synchronously online via Microsoft Teams.

Qualifications:

Required:

- Master's degree in Social Work, First Nations Studies,



or a closely related field (a bachelor's degree and extensive work experience in related fields may be considered).
- Demonstrated extensive experience working with or in local Indigenous communities or in-depth knowledge of local Indigenous traditional practices.
- Experience teaching online and use of learning management systems.
- Commitment to student motivation and achievement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work and contribute positively to the College environment are essential.

Preferred:

- Ph.D. in Social Work, First Nations Studies, or a closely related field.
- The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program or an equivalent credential in adult education, or a readiness to pursue such a credential.
- Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous students.
- Experience with Indigenous Communities, Peoples, and Culture.
