What You'll Do:

Reporting to the Director, Environmental Risk Assessment Division, the Operations Manager manages a technical program and provides expert guidance on geoscience or environmental risk assessment related reviews. The role provides leadership and direction to staff, develops technical and regulatory recommendations, and advises the Director on strategic priorities, emerging risks and key decisions.

As an Operations Manager, you will lead and manage a team of professionals responsible for delivering regulatory, compliance, licensing and technical assessment activities on behalf of the CNSC.

Essential Qualifications:

Education:

University degree in science or engineering from a recognized university in a discipline relevant to environmental risk assessment (e.g. biology, toxicology, terrestrial or aquatic ecology, radioecology, etc) or geosciences (e.g. hydrology, hydrogeology, structural geology, geochemistry, geotechnical engineering, etc). An equivalent combination of education, experience and relevant job knowledge may also be considered.

Language Requirements

Bilingual imperative with proficiency at CBC level. The position may be filled by a person who is willing to become bilingual through language training within 2 years of their appointment. If you are unsure of your proficiency level, we encourage you to self-assess here

Experience:

- Leading multidisciplinary technical and/or regulatory teams responsible for delivering regulatory, scientific, engineering, compliance, licensing and/or assessment activities
- Mentoring, coaching and/or supervising team members or direct reports
- Formulating positions on complex compliance, licensing and/or technical issues and briefing management on strategic recommendations.
- Building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Knowledge of:

- Environmental risk assessment or geoscience principles as they apply to the nuclear industry
- Regulatory programs and processes (licensing, compliance, inspection, technical assessment).
- CNSC mandate, strategic objectives and regulatory role

Ability to:





- Analyze complex, multi-disciplinary technical and regulatory information and develop sound recommendations.
- Communicate effectively with diverse audiences, both orally and in writing.

Asset Qualification:

- PhD or Master’s degree in a related field of study
- Experience working in the nuclear industry or a comparable highly regulated industry
- Experience working with Indigenous nations or communities
- Knowledge of change management approaches and practices

Operational Needs: All CNSC staff are subject to the Mobility Directive.

This position may require travel.

Overtime: Overtime may be required.
