Culinary Support Worker The Giving Table | Kawartha Lakes / Lindsay, ON Part-Time, Casual | Minimum 2 Days/Week

About The Giving Table The Giving Table is a community meal service operating out of Lindsay, Ontario, connected to Bob’s Place — a 10-bed transitional and respite care home — and providing home-delivered meals across Kawartha Lakes, Durham, and Peterborough. We serve individuals at some of the most vulnerable points in their lives: seniors, people living with dementia or Parkinson’s disease, individuals with cerebral palsy or chronic illness, those recovering from surgery, and people undergoing cancer treatment.

Food is more than nutrition here. It is comfort, routine, and dignity. Our kitchen reflects that. Under the leadership of our Head Chef, David, we prepare thoughtful, nourishing meals that meet the complex dietary and sensory needs of the people we serve. We are growing — expanding into catering and larger community meal programs — and we are looking for someone who shares our commitment to doing this work with care and professionalism.

About the Role The Culinary Support Worker assists Chef David with daily meal preparation and kitchen operations at Bob’s Place and supports community meal delivery. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands that working in a care setting requires more than cooking skills — it requires empathy, discretion, and a genuine respect for the people receiving your food.

A minimum of 2 scheduled days per week is required, with additional availability to cover Chef David’s holidays and to assist with catering events as The Giving Table expands. Some weekend availability is expected. This role reports directly to Chef David.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist with daily meal preparation, cooking, and kitchen operations

· Prepare meals that meet a range of dietary, textural, and therapeutic needs (e.g., soft/pureed diets, low-sodium, allergen-aware, chemo-sensitive)

· Support community meal packaging and preparation for delivery

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment in compliance with food safety standards

· Cover full kitchen operations independently when Chef David is on holidays

· Assist with catering events and high-volume meal prep as The Giving Table grows

· Follow all kitchen protocols, dietary care plans, and handling procedures

· Conduct yourself with professionalism and discretion at all times when working in and around a care home workplace

Required Qualifications

· Culinary training (diploma, certificate, or apprenticeship) or equivalent hands-on kitchen experience

· Food Handler Certification — or willingness to obtain one prior to start

· Deep empathy for vulnerable populations; professional or personal experience supporting individuals living with chronic illness, cancer, dementia, neurological conditions, or disability is a strong asset

· Understanding of how illness, treatment, and aging affect appetite, taste, texture preferences, and dietary restrictions (e.g., swallowing difficulties, chemo-related taste changes, pureed food requirements)

· Ability to work independently and take full ownership of the kitchen when required

· Reliable, punctual, and consistent — our clients depend on meals being prepared and delivered on schedule

· Valid Ontario driver’s licence and clean driver’s abstract

· Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) required prior to start date

· Flexible availability including some weekends

· Proof of Vaccines/TB Test

Preferred Qualifications (Assets)

· Experience working in a healthcare, long-term care,

or residential care food service setting

· Catering or high-volume meal preparation experience

· Knowledge of therapeutic and modified texture diets (IDDSI framework or equivalent)

· Experience preparing meals for individuals on specialized protocols (e.g., G-tube, post-surgical, oncology)

· First Aid/CPR certification

Working Conditions

· Work is based primarily at Bob’s Place in Lindsay, Ontario, with occasional community delivery support

· Kitchen environment — standing for extended periods, lifting, and food handling are part of the role

· This is a care home setting; professional, compassionate, and discreet conduct is expected at all times

· The Giving Table is part of a growing organization; the scope and schedule of this role may expand over time

· Minimum 2 days per week with flexibility required for holiday coverage and events
