FITNESS CENTRE MEMBER EXPERIENCE STAFF The Canada Games Centre (CGC) is a vibrant multi-sport community and recreation centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We are a 176,000 sqft facility operated by a non-profit society committed to promoting physical literacy, fitness and wellness, and to supporting the needs of high performance sport & athlete development. The Centre runs sport and recreation programs, camps, fitness classes and so much more in an inclusive environment.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing positive member service experiences, resources, and support to guests and staff in the Canada Games Centre Fitness Centre. A commitment to exceptional customer service and a love of the fitness and wellness industry is a must.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and foster customer relationships through professional, courteous and efficient service for all basic customer inquiries.
- Assisting members and visitors in the centre either face to face, on the telephone, or electronically.
- Assisting Fitness Centre users with use of cardio and weight equipment
- Respond promptly to member and visitor inquiries in the Fitness Centre and on the Track
- Handle and resolve member suggestions and concerns.
- Obtain and evaluate all relevant information to handle inquiries and suggestions.
- Sign in members and visitors to the Fitness Centre.
- Direct requests and unresolved challenges to the designated resource.
- Manage member accounts.
- Assist with set-ups for group fitness classes, fee-based groups, and rentals throughout the facility.
- Clean and maintain the fitness centre and fitness equipment.
- Ensure participant safety and satisfaction.
- Ensure appropriate use of facility by patrons and guests and enforce facility guidelines and safety standards.
- Communicate and coordinate with internal departments.
- Follow up on customer interactions with next steps.
- Maintain program records, equipment, and supplies, and distribute evaluations.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Mandatory
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices
- Strong knowledge of fitness and healthy living
- A genuine desire to help others
- Standard First Aid certificate or equivalent (including CPR C) must be obtained within 3 months of being hired (offered onsite)
- Previous customer service or retail experience
Desirable
- AED Certification
KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION
- Experience working in either a community, fitness or sport setting
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Good decision making skills
- Be compassionate, patient, and understanding
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must have a flexible schedule and be available to work weekdays (we are open from 5:15am – 10:15pm)
- Working environment includes physical, emotional, and mental demands on infrequent occasion
- Exposure to loud noises and ability to concentrate in a busy setting
Please note that a successful Criminal Record Check & Child Abuse Registry Check will be required as part of the hiring process.
The starting wage for this position is $17.00 per hour.
