JP Matters Immigration Consulting
Saskatoon
JP Matters Immigration Consulting is recruiting an experienced pastry cook for our client, an independent casual-dining restaurant in Saskatoon. This is a single-location kitchen rather than a chain — the desserts are made in house, and the person who makes them has a hand in what goes on the menu.
What you would do
- Prepare the pastry and dessert items to established recipes and to the kitchen’s quality standard
- Work from the production schedule to decide the variety and quantity to bake, and assemble the supplies and equipment for the day
- Mix batters and sheet pastry dough on the appropriate equipment, proof dough and bake
- Portion every dessert item to specification
- Prepare confectionery work to recipe, and baked goods for special diets where they are asked for
- Keep the work area, utensils and equipment clean and maintained
What the job asks for
- Minimum 2 years as a pastry cook, in a restaurant, bakery or hotel kitchen
- Strong knowledge of baking and pastry methods, food safety and kitchen sanitation
- Accuracy with weights, measures and timings
- Organisation and time management, and the ability to work to a production schedule
- Valuable working English for the kitchen
- Able to lift kitchen supplies and stand for long periods
- Flexible availability, including early mornings, weekends and holidays
- Culinary or pastry training is a strong asset but is not required; Food Safety Certification is an asset
What the station is like
Pastry is its own station, and it is yours to run day to day. The menu changes with the season,
so the dessert list is not fixed — there is room to put your own work on it. You work alongside the line cooks rather than in a separate bakery.
Pay and benefits
- $16 – $21 CAD per hour to start, before tax, depending on experience
- Plus an estimated $2 – $3 per hour in tips
- Increases follow with skills
- Extended health care
- Paid vacation and statutory holiday pay
- On-site parking
