Payroll Manager – Novus Automotive (Durham Region, ON)

At Novus Automotive, we drive innovation and excellence across our network of six automotive dealerships and affiliated business units. With a commitment to our people, precision, and performance, we’re seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to join our team.

Together, the Payroll Managers oversee payroll operations across seven separate payroll companies and work closely with our Human Resources team and dealership Controllers to ensure employees across Ontario are paid accurately, compliantly, and on time.

Position Overview

Reporting to the CFO, the Payroll Manager is responsible for managing full-cycle Canadian payroll and will work collaboratively with the existing Payroll Manager to support the day-to-day delivery, accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement of Novus Automotive’s payroll operations.

This is a highly cooperative role that works closely with the CFO, Human Resources, Finance, and dealership Controllers on payroll processing, employee changes, reconciliations, reporting, issue resolution, and process improvements.

The ideal candidate holds the Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation, is highly proficient in Workday, and brings 5+ years of hands-on payroll experience in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Process end-to-end payroll on a bi-weekly or semi-monthly basis for all pay types (salaried, commission, hourly, and contract).
- Validate timesheets, bonuses, overtime, deductions, and benefits contributions.
- Prepare and remit statutory deductions and reports (CRA, EHT, WSIB, ROEs, T4/T4A, etc.).




- Maintain and reconcile payroll general ledger accounts in collaboration with Finance.
- Administer and audit benefit and pension deductions for accuracy.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and issue resolution.
- Ensure compliance with provincial and federal payroll legislation.
- Prepare and maintain accurate payroll documentation and internal audit trails.
- Support the optimization of our payroll system, Workday.
- Collaborate with HR on employee onboarding, offboarding, and compensation changes.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency and data integrity.

Qualifications & Requirements

- 5+ years of full-cycle Canadian payroll experience (multi-province experience an asset).
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation (required).
- Proficiency in Workday payroll system,
- Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation, employment standards, and CRA compliance.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, reconciliations).
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

- Compensation: $70,000 to $90,000 annually, depending on skills and experience.
