We are looking for an experienced Pharmacy Assistant to join our community pharmacy team. This position is intended for someone with previous hands-on experience working in a community pharmacy who is comfortable with prescription processing, pharmacy workflow, third-party billing, inventory management and customer service. This is a part-time position, with regular hours from 1:00 PM to 6 PM, Monday to Friday, and occasional Saturdays.

We are looking for someone who can work efficiently and independently in a pharmacy workplace, recognize priorities, multitask and take initiative without requiring continuous direction.

Previous community pharmacy experience is required for this position.

Qualifications & Skills

- Excellent communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience with prescription entry and processing
- Familiarity with third-party insurance billing and adjudication
- Knowledge of Ontario pharmacy workflow and ODB billing
- Experience with pharmacy management software is required; experience with Propel Rx is a strong asset
- Experience with blister/compliance packaging
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Able to recognize priorities and work with a sense of urgency when required
- Reliable and punctual
- Comfortable working independently as well as part of a small pharmacy team
- Professional and respectful when communicating with patients, prescribers and other healthcare professionals

Roles and Responsibilities Prescription Processing & Dispensary Support

- Enter and process prescriptions accurately and efficiently
- Create and maintain patient profiles
- Process prescription refills and manage refill requests
- Prepare prescriptions for pharmacist verification




- Assist with prescription adjudication and third-party insurance billing
- Troubleshoot common billing issues, including ODB and private insurance claims
- Process prescription transfers and communicate with other pharmacies as required
- Assist with faxing refill requests and other routine communications to prescribers
- Maintain accurate documentation and patient information
- Assist with blister packaging and other compliance packaging
- Support the pharmacist in maintaining an efficient prescription workflow

Pharmacy Operations

- Assist with opening and closing procedures as required
- Receive and process pharmacy orders
- Unpack, organize and put away medications and supplies
- Monitor inventory and assist with ordering
- Check expiry dates and rotate stock appropriately
- Process medication returns and other inventory-related tasks
- Maintain an organized and efficient dispensary

Patient & Customer Service

- Greet patients and provide professional, courteous service
- Answer telephone calls and appropriately prioritize inquiries
- Direct clinical and medication-related questions to the pharmacist
- Assist patients with prescription pickup, payments and general inquiries
- Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy at all times
- Help create a welcoming and professional environment for patients

What We Are Looking For This position is best suited for an experienced Pharmacy Assistant who is already comfortable with the day-to-day workflow of a community pharmacy. The successful candidate should be able to assess what needs to be done, prioritize tasks appropriately and contribute to the workflow without requiring constant supervision.
