Job Summary
We are a current cataract operating centre and are looking to hire an RPN part time for pre/post op duties.
Preference to those who have Ophthalmological experience to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional perioperative patient care, ensuring safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes during surgical procedures. This role requires a highly skilled professional with a strong background in nursing practices, surgical protocols, and patient advocacy.
The Registered
Nurse in the Operating Room will collaborate closely with surgeons to deliver high-quality surgical services in a fast-paced environment.
Duties
- Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are sterile and ready for procedures
- Assist surgical teams during operations by passing instruments, maintaining sterile fields, and monitoring patient status
- Administer medications and anesthesia as prescribed, adhering to safety protocols and medical standards
- Monitor patient vital signs throughout surgery, responding promptly to any changes or complications
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately using electronic health records such as Accuro
- Provide preoperative and postoperative care instructions to patients and their families
- Ensure compliance with infection control policies and safety regulations within the operating environment
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans for surgical patients
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to stay current with medical advancements and best practices
Skills
- Proven experience in nursing with a focus on perioperative or surgical nursing preferred
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medication administration, and patient care procedures
- Experience with electronic health record systems such as Epic or Cerner is highly desirable
- Ability to perform phlebotomy, laboratory procedures, and pain management techniques as needed
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with surgical teams and patient families
- Familiarity with various care settings including hospital, nursing home, assisted living, hospice, pediatrics, senior care, dementia care, home care, and acute care environments is advantageous
- Capable of managing case loads efficiently while maintaining attention to detail in high-pressure situations
- Compassionate approach to patient care with a focus on safety and comfort during all phases of surgery
