POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the technical support of extrusion and blending lines, in addition to managing and leading projects related to capital expansion and improving the overall safety of the plant and lab. This position will conceptualize, develop and carry out the implementation/startup of new products, supervise test runs and submit manufacturing feedback reports to technical services and procurement groups. Train supervisors and production associates in specific tasks, assist in the development of new procedures, initiate and execute enhancements/ improvements to existing processes that reduce scrap, change over time, increase run rates and support technologies to address current and future plant needs and scheduling.
This position requires serving as a backup for Production Supervisor on alternate shifts.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Manages the Trial process of new products, including but not limited to the Trial Review meeting, formulation & running conditions setup.
· Supports Manufacturing, Product Development and Sales by providing technical lead during initial product development stages such as: involvement in design review, supervising trial runs, creating and submitting Manufacturing Feedback reports, creating and updating SOCs.
· Provides technical support expertise in the manufacturing process to reduce and eliminate quality deficiencies of end product.
· Provides technical support by initiating continuous improvement activities.
· Develops, implements and executes programs to improve equipment operational effectiveness, yield/waste, rates, and material flow.
· Sets up & maintains SOCs in NAV. Requests formula changes.
· Identifies solutions related to process flow within the plant.
· Researches, develops and writes detailed engineering studies for products, processes, and trends related to production deficiencies.
· Provides feasibility studies on various processes to improve plant and production sustainability.
· Provides back up to Production Supervisor as required, which may include working shifts, opening/closing the plant, directing workload, training employees, certifying batches, etc.
· Updates / creates Production Structures.
· Monitors Datagate daily for trends outside of predetermined controlled SOCs
· Acts to correct out-of-control processes as identified by process control charts, production efficiency reports, etc.
· Serves as a resource on the Joint Health & Safety Committee
· Assists in researching Operations related customer complaints.
· Maintains a high attendance record.
· Works OT and alternate hours as required.
· Performs work duties in a safe and efficient manner.
· Ability to work independently and with others.
· Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to the spirit of total quality and continuous improvement in performing the position duties.
· Other related duties as assigned by the Senior Process Engineer.
SCOPE AND DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY
Diversified work for which general objectives exist. Responsible for the coordination of projects or services within a department. Decisions involve interpreting complex data or refining work methods and techniques to be used. Expected to overcome all problems associated with area of responsibility. For problems of a wider scope, advice is sought from superiors.
Relationships
· Works directly with Production Supervisors, Operators, blenders, stagers, Maintenance, Project Engineers, Product Development, QA Department, Plant Manager, Warehouse, CSR’s and Commercial
· Interacts with customers on trials.
· Interacts daily with all production, maintenance personnel, CSR’s, and QA
· Fosters robust relationship with co-workers with some exposure to management team, actively participates in achieving company/department goals.

Staff Responsibilities
No direct supervisory responsibility except for coop student. When covering for production supervisor, would lead the production floor personnel. Provides assignment of work, instructions, and assistance to other employees within a work group or unit. May train on an informal basis, check work for accuracy,
and provide input for performance appraisals.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Specialized education equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree. Requires application of knowledge in a specialized field. Ability to plan & organize work. Capable of solving problems of a difficult nature, within field of specialization.
Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Polymer, Mechanical Engineering is required.
Requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
· Strongly prefer engineering experience in a manufacturing setting with strong polymer and polymer processing or equivalent knowledge.
· Advanced PC Skills including proficiency in Windows, Excel, Word & Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, and CAD
· Superior time management & organizational skills
· Strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills
· A thorough knowledge in root cause analysis is essential, supported by advanced knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics
· Previous training and supervisory experience preferred.
