Project Manager – Industrial Construction

Location: Near Kamloops, B.C.
Job Type: Full-time, site-based
Schedule: 10 days on / 4 days off; 11-hour workdays
Base Salary: $170,000–$190,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
Reports To: In office Senior Project Manager The Opportunity
RKM Services Ltd. is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of large-scale industrial construction projects.
Reporting to the on-site Senior Project Manager, you will manage assigned construction scopes and subcontractors, coordinate execution requirements, and support project scheduling, cost control, and contract administration. You will work closely with construction supervision, project controls, safety, quality, and procurement personnel to ensure work is properly planned, resourced, and completed.
This position requires an experienced industrial construction professional who takes ownership, resolves issues promptly, and maintains accountability for assigned work. You will also provide project management coverage during the Senior Project Manager’s scheduled absences, within delegated authority.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution and Coordination
- Manage assigned scopes from execution planning through construction, turnover, and closeout.
- Coordinate with construction managers and superintendents to confirm labour, supervision, equipment, materials, and work-front readiness.
- Track deliverables and resolve issues affecting field execution.
- Coordinate interfaces between RKM’s self-performed work, subcontractors, and other project participants.
- Support shutdown planning, including sequencing, staffing, and day- and night-shift coordination.
- Escalate significant risks to the Senior Project Manager with practical recommendations.
Planning and Scheduling
- Work with project controls and field supervision to develop and maintain schedules and look-ahead plans.
- Monitor assigned activities against project milestones and identify emerging delays.
- Confirm that drawings, work packages, materials, and required approvals are available before work starts.
- Support the development and implementation of mitigation and recovery plans.
- Track actions and commitments through to completion.
Cost Control and Reporting
- Monitor budgets, commitments, labour productivity, and actual costs for assigned scopes.
- Prepare accurate progress updates and contribute to cost-to-complete forecasts.
- Identify potential overruns and recommend corrective measures.
- Review field records, time-and-material documentation, and subcontractor progress claims.
- Support timely preparation of progress billings and associated backup.
- Provide transparent reporting on progress, costs, risks, and outstanding decisions.
Subcontractor Management
- Coordinate subcontractor planning, staffing, work readiness, and execution.
- Monitor compliance with subcontract scope, schedule, safety, and quality requirements.
- Lead assigned coordination meetings and follow up on commitments.
- Identify performance gaps and work with the Senior Project Manager to implement corrective actions.
- Ensure subcontractor activities are coordinated with other disciplines and site operations.
Contract Administration and Change Management
- Understand the contract requirements applicable to assigned work.
- Identify and document scope changes, delays, disruptions, and additional costs.
- Prepare supporting records, draft notices, and change submissions for review.
- Maintain accurate correspondence, meeting records, and action logs.
- Participate in client and subcontractor discussions within delegated authority.
- Refer commercial commitments and settlements to the Senior Project Manager for approval.
Safety, Quality, and Completion
- Demonstrate visible safety leadership and support compliance with site requirements.
- Work with field supervision and safety personnel to address hazards and corrective actions.
- Coordinate with quality personnel to ensure inspection and testing requirements are incorporated into work planning.
- Monitor deficiencies, rework, and completion of quality documentation.
- Support turnover packages, final quantities, outstanding changes, and project closeout.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 7 years of progressive industrial construction experience, including experience managing construction scopes as a Project Manager or in a comparable role.
- Experience in mining, mineral processing, heavy industrial facilities, or similar construction environments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary work, subcontractors, and self-performed construction activities.
- Experience working in operating facilities; major shutdown or turnaround experience is a strong asset.
- Experience coordinating unionized construction workforces is preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction planning, productivity, cost control, forecasting, and change management.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and schedules.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead assigned work independently while coordinating effectively with the Senior Project Manager and field leadership.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and project reporting systems; familiarity with Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project is an asset.
- A degree or diploma in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline is preferred. Relevant trade qualifications combined with substantial project management experience will also be considered.
- PMP or Gold Seal certification is an asset.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to meet applicable mine-site access requirements.
Schedule and Work Environment This position is based near Kamloops, British Columbia, on a 10-days-on / 4-days-off rotation, working 11-hour days.
The role requires regular interaction with field teams in an active industrial construction environment. Coordination with the Senior Project Manager’s rotation will be required to maintain management coverage. Additional shutdown coverage or schedule adjustments will be addressed through the employment terms and project requirements.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary of $170,000–$190,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
