We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Public Speaking Coach to join our coaching team. The ideal candidate is passionate about public speaking and enjoys working with young students to help them become more confident, compelling, and effective communicators.
Our coaches work with students in Grades 3-7 in small, highly interactive classes of no more than six students per instructor. Coaches will teach students a range of public speaking skills, including speech writing and delivery, interpretive reading, and impromptu speaking. This is a hands-on teaching role where instructors will have the prospect to work closely with students and see their skills develop over time.
Responsibilities
- Teach public speaking classes to students in Grades 3-7
- Teach students how to write and structure effective speeches
- Coach students on speech delivery, including vocal expression, pacing, body language, and audience engagement
- Teach and coach interpretive reading
- Lead impromptu speaking exercises and activities
- Adapt our existing curriculum to create engaging weekly lesson plans
- Adjust instruction and activities to accommodate different ages, experience levels, and learning needs
- Provide students with constructive, specific feedback to help them improve
- Track student progress and provide written feedback through report cards
- Teach both group classes and, where appropriate, private lessons
What We're Looking For We are looking for candidates who have a genuine background in public speaking, either through competing themselves or through coaching and teaching others. Experience in areas such as competitive public speaking, speech championships, TED-style speaking events, Toastmasters, or similar programs is highly valued.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrated public speaking experience through participation in or coaching for public speaking events or competitions
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Experience coaching, teaching, mentoring, or working with children and/or teenagers is an asset
- Competitive public speaking experience is an asset
- Coaching or teaching experience is an asset
- Experience working with children or teens is an asset
- Relevant educational experience or a degree in a related field is an asset
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- The ability to provide thoughtful, constructive feedback
- The ability to adapt instruction to students with different skill levels and learning styles
- A warm, encouraging, and energetic teaching style
We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds. Competitive success is an asset, but it is not required. University students with strong public speaking experience are encouraged to apply.
Schedule
This is a part-time position with classes primarily taking place during evenings and weekends. Candidates must have availability during these times.
Training & Support
We provide coaches with
- Training on lesson planning and classroom instruction
- An overview of our public speaking curriculum
- Resources and materials to support lessons
- A collection of interpretive reading pieces and speech prompts
- Guidance on different speech formats and approaches to teaching them
Coaches will have a base curriculum to work from while still having the flexibility to adapt lessons and activities to the needs of their students. Who Would Thrive in This Role?

Pay: $60.00-$80.00 per hour
Expected hours: 2.0 – 6.0 per week
