Reporting to the Operations Manager – Public Works, the Public Works Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision, coordination, and administration of field operations within the Public Works Department. The Supervisor provides leadership and direction to Public Works staff, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with departmental standards and municipal objectives.

The primary focus of this position is the management of day-to-day operations. The Supervisor serves as the first point of contact for operational matters and provides management coverage during the absence of the Operation Manager – Public Works.

Requirements:

- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal public works, construction or similar.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of municipal public works operations, including roads, water, wastewater, stormwater, and related infrastructure.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
- Solid organizational, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands and respond effectively to changing operational needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with work management systems, Microsoft Office applications, and municipal operational software.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any certifications required for municipal operations.




- Availability to participate in emergency response and after-hours operational support as required.

Responsibilities:

- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily Public Works operations, including water and wastewater infrastructure, streets and other municipal services as assigned.
- Assign daily work activities and priorities to Public Works staff.
- Monitor work progress and ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to established standards.
- Respond to operational issues, service requests, emergencies, and changing priorities as they arise.
- Conduct regular field inspections to assess work quality, productivity, and compliance with departmental procedures.
- Provide direct supervision, guidance, and support to Public Works employees.
- Promote a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, accountability, safety, and customer service.
- Assist with employee training, mentoring, and development.
- Monitor attendance, scheduling, overtime, and staffing requirements.
- Track and document work activities, completed tasks, service requests, and operational performance metrics.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and service delivery.
- Recommend process improvements, equipment needs,



and operational changes to enhance departmental effectiveness.
- Assist in developing and implementing standard operating procedures and best practices.
- Ensure work orders and operational records are accurately maintained.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices and compliance with occupational health and safety legislation.
- Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and incident investigations as required.
- Ensure employees have the appropriate training, equipment, and resources to perform their work safely.
- Respond to inquiries, concerns, and service requests from residents, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate with other municipal departments, utilities, consultants, and contractors as required.
- Maintain effective communication between field staff and management.
- Serve as the designated operational lead during the absence of the Operations Manager - Public Works.
- Provide decision-making authority for routine operational matters.
- Coordinate emergency response activities and departmental resources when required.
- Represent the department at meetings and with external stakeholders as delegated.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required by the Operations Manager - Public Works.

Working Conditions:

Incumbent may be required to work non-traditional hours including days, evenings, weekend, and holidays. The work may be carried out in various locations and/or Town Facilities.

Closing Date: October 5th, 2026 @ 4:30pm

Salary Range: Min: $79,227 – Mid: $95,073 – Max: $110,918
