Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE)
Little Village Academy | Barrie, Ontario
Full-Time | Preschool Program
Do you believe preschoolers are capable of more?
So do we.
Little Village Academy is looking for a passionate RECE who believes that young children are competent, capable and incredibly curious learners.
We believe preschoolers can ask big questions. They can solve problems. They can investigate, create, experiment, make decisions, take responsibility, develop independence and engage in meaningful learning when they're given the opportunity.
And we believe great educators know how to recognize those capabilities and build on them.
If you're an RECE who loves creating engaging experiences, gets excited when a child's curiosity takes learning in an unexpected direction, and believes the preschool years can build the foundation for a lifelong love of learning, we'd love to meet you.
About Little Village Academy
Little Village Academy is a licensed preschool program and the beginning of the Urban Village educational journey.
Created in connection with Urban Village Academy, our private elementary school, LVA gives children the opportunity to begin building the confidence, independence, curiosity and love of learning that we hope they will carry with them throughout their school years.
We don't see preschool simply as the stage before Kindergarten.
We see these years as an incredible opportunity to help children discover who they are as learners.
Our goal isn't to make preschool feel like elementary school or to fill a child's day with worksheets. Instead, we want to create an environment that makes children want to ask, explore, investigate, build, read, create, experiment and discover.
We want our children to leave LVA believing:
My ideas matter.
I can figure things out.
I can do hard things.
I am capable.
Learning is exciting.
What Learning Looks Like at LVA
Our program combines purposeful play with intentional learning opportunities, including:
- Early literacy and language development
- Early numeracy and mathematical thinking
- Science, STEM and inquiry-based exploration
- Art, creativity and self-expression
- Outdoor education and nature-based learning
- Problem-solving and critical thinking
- Independence and practical life skills
- Mindfulness and emotional development
- Hands-on projects and real-world experiences
- Guest speakers, special experiences and opportunities to explore the wider community
Our connection with Urban Village Academy allows us to think beyond traditional preschool programming and intentionally build the skills,
confidence and curiosity children will carry into their school years.
But childhood still comes first.
We believe play-based learning and meaningful academic foundations can exist beautifully together.
The Educator We're Looking For
We're looking for an RECE who doesn't underestimate children.
Someone who hears "Why does that happen?" and thinks, let's find out.
Someone who sees children building with blocks and recognizes engineering, collaboration, mathematics and problem-solving happening in front of them.
Someone who can take a child's interest in bugs, space, dinosaurs, construction, baking or rainbows and turn it into days of meaningful exploration.
Someone who understands that being intentional doesn't mean controlling every moment of the day. It means knowing your children well enough to recognize opportunities for learning and knowing how to extend them.
And someone who genuinely enjoys being part of that process.
What You'll Do
As an RECE at LVA, you will:
- Build warm, meaningful relationships with children and families
- Create engaging, thoughtful and beautiful learning environments
- Plan intentional experiences based on children's interests, developmental needs and learning goals
- Encourage children to question, investigate, experiment and problem-solve
- Support early literacy, numeracy and school-readiness skills through developmentally appropriate experiences
- Promote independence, confidence and responsibility throughout the day
- Observe children's learning and use those observations to extend programming
- Bring creativity, new ideas and enthusiasm into the classroom
- Collaborate closely with your teaching team
- Participate in outdoor education, special events, guest experiences and hands-on projects
- Maintain licensing, health, safety and documentation requirements
- Communicate professionally and positively with families
- Contribute ideas to the continued growth and development of LVA

- Are a Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Believe deeply that children are competent, capable and full of potential
- Are excited about early literacy, inquiry, school readiness and hands-on learning
- Love creating engaging experiences rather than simply filling a programming calendar

If that's the kind of educator you want to be, we would love to hear from you.
