We are a Licensed Childcare Centre looking for a reliable, mature and responsible Full-Time Supervisor to join our team! We have early learning programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. We strive in offering high quality care and a home like environment in which children will develop, play, and learn with confidence.
Programs at Bridges Kinder Connection are developed using ELECT principles, DROC guidelines and the programs are built on the pedagogical framework presented in How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years.
Principle Responsibilities: Our centre is looking for a Supervisor who will work both independently and collaboratively with the director to lead and manage a team of educators to deliver enrichment-based programs for children ages from 3 months to 12 years old. The Supervisor ensures the facility is a protected and fun place for children to learn. This is a managerial role and the Supervisor is tasked with a wide variety of responsibilities, including managing staff, interacting with parents, documentation, filing and marketing duties.
They enjoy working with children and want to provide the children and staff at the child care center with the best possible experience. This role will also require covering ratio and lunches when needed.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to legally work in Canada
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing a centre in an assistant supervisor or supervisor role.
- Thorough knowledge of Ministry licensing requirements of the Child Care and Early Years Act, Durham Region, Fire Department and Public Health.
- Thorough knowledge and exprience with Durham Region Operating Criteria (DROC)
- Education: Early Childhood Education Diploma, current RECE and member in good standing in the College of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario required
- Early Childhood Management Certificate would be an asset
- Clear/no relevant information from a Vulnerable Sector Check (current within 6 months)
- Must be up to date on all required immunizations
- TB Current (within 6 months)
- Valid Driver's Licence (G Class) and access to a reliable vehicle (occasionally help transport lunch/groceries from one centre to another).
- Current Standard First Aid- level C with CPR and AED certification
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and be flexible
- Must be a team player and be able to effectively collaborate with staff, families, director as well as mentoring
- Strong administrative skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Canva and other web based software
- Create Monthly Calendars & Newsletters
- Excellent command of the English language both oral and written
- Well-versed in How Does Learning Happen and Elect Document
- Preferred but not an ASSET:
Active in the RECE community with close ties to current events (professional development), Food Handler’s Certification and experience with special needs
Skill Set The Supervisor must be kind, patient and loving, as they spend most of their days working with and around young children. While they must be a strong leader, with the ability to manage a diverse group of children, families and staff it is important that they are an effective communicator as they will be interacting with both parents, children and staff daily. It is also imperative that they are very organized, reliable, detail-oriented, trustworthy and responsible. A large part of this role is being able to handle and manage parent issues and concerns. Responsibilities: Due to the nature of work and hours of operation of the centre, the Supervisor must be available to work a variety of different shifts. Occasional evenings may be required to provide tours to potential families, attend staff meetings, other professional development and daycare events such as open-house BBQ, Concert or any other social/ marketing event.
Implementing the childcare centres Mission, Values, and objectives aligning program goals with the Program Statement and always ensuring compliance with Ministry licensing requirements of the Child Care and Early Years Act.
- Be the primary point of contact for the director, family, and staff for the day-to-day operation of the program.
- Help develop and maintain programming to enhance the cultural, educational, physical, mental, and social well-being of our children
Training of staff, assisting teachers with program planning and ensuring classrooms meet or exceed licensing requirements
- Liaising with outside resources, when necessary, i.e., speech, occupational therapists, resource consultants, etc.
- Assisting the classroom educators with any routines or needs of children, when necessary, i.e., diapering, rest/nap periods, transitions, etc.
- May be required to assist occasionally in classroom duties to meet ratios and other program requirements
- Maintains inventory lists of all items in the centre
- Training of new staff and students to meet the highest quality standards and ensure growth
Management:
- Management of all Ministry of Education documents and guidelines as well as Public Health and Fire Department
- Vast and deep knowledge of the Ministry of Education Licensing Manual,
DROC guidelines as well as How Does Learning Happen and the ELECT documents
- Up to date with changes and use of CCLS
- Ensuring ratio of child to educator minimums are being consistently met per Ministry of Education Requirements
- Implementation and adherence to Centre policies and procedures to optimize programs, write, update and review policies and procedures.
- Ensure all children have proper paperwork on file, including their health information, allergies, details of any medical conditions they suffer from and authorization from the parents stating who is allowed to pick the child up from the facility
- Management of waitlist order and updates, responsible for enrollment intake in Fall from the waitlist.
- Maintains relationships with key stakeholders such as: building management, Public Health, Vendors, Suppliers, and all other third-party providers for the centre
Reporting to the Director/Centre owner on a weekly basis or more often if required ( Report on enrolment, exits, staff and overall operations) Day-to-day Operations:
- Design an “Amazing Experience Tour” for interested potential clients
- Reviews the classroom boards ensuring that information posted is accurate, updated, current and inclusive of all requirements by Ministry of Education, Fire Department, and Public Health
Consistently communicate with parents to retrieve feedback and increase referrals
- Staff Screening, interviewing, and hiring of new staff
- Training of new staff to meet highest quality standards and ensure growth.
- Continuous coaching and mentoring of the staff to increase educational components.
- Supervisor is in-charge of approving and expanding on the planned activities that teachers produce (ensuring they are inclusive, educational, engaging and age-appropriate).
- Reviewing program plans weekly and signing off
- Monitoring staff members to ensure they’re accurately performing assigned duties and responsibilities (ensuring their CPR/First Aid is updated regularly)
- Leading staff meeting and professional development workshops
- Ensure all Performance reviews and program statement monitoring are completed
- Train, coach and mentor staff
- Develop a solid plan to reward, retain and recognize staff in the centre to ensure optimal client service and childcare services
