Position Summary The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning setting for children at CEY Childcare Kains. The RECE supports each child’s individual development through Montessori-inspired practices, purposeful observation, hands-on learning experiences, and respectful interactions.

The RECE works collaboratively with educators, families, placement students, and centre leadership to provide high-quality care while maintaining professional standards and following all centre policies and applicable childcare requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Montessori Learning Environment

- Prepare and maintain an organized, welcoming, calm, and developmentally appropriate Montessori-inspired classroom.
- Encourage children to develop independence, concentration, confidence, responsibility, and respect for others.
- Provide opportunities for children to learn through hands-on exploration and purposeful activities.
- Introduce and model appropriate use of classroom materials.
- Rotate and prepare activities based on children's interests, developmental needs, observations, and classroom themes.
- Encourage children to participate in caring for their classroom environment, including tidying materials and returning activities to their appropriate places.
- Support learning experiences in Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Culture, Science, Geography, Art, Music and Movement, and outdoor learning.
- Respect each child's individual pace of development and provide appropriate guidance when needed.

Child Development & Programming

- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences based on observations of the children.
- Observe children's interests, strengths, emerging skills, and developmental needs.
- Complete required observations and documentation.
- Adapt activities and the classroom environment to meet individual needs and abilities.
- Provide opportunities that support children's physical, cognitive, language, social, emotional, and creative development.
- Encourage curiosity, problem-solving, independence, and positive peer interactions.

Supervision & Safety

- Maintain active supervision of children at all times.
- Conduct regular head counts and ensure attendance records are accurate.
- Follow appropriate procedures during classroom transitions, outdoor play, meals, rest periods, and washroom/diapering routines.
- Maintain awareness of children's allergies, food restrictions, medical conditions, and individual plans.
- Follow emergency procedures and participate in required fire drills and safety practices.
- Immediately report accidents, incidents, injuries, hazards,



or concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and safe classroom and promptly address potential hazards.
- Follow all required sanitation, infection prevention, and health and safety procedures.

Daily Care & Routines

- Assist children with toileting, diapering, dressing, handwashing, meals, rest, and other daily routines as required.
- Ensure diapering and toileting procedures are completed hygienically and respectfully.
- Support children's growing independence during self-care routines.
- Follow individual dietary requirements, allergies, and food restrictions.
- Maintain children's dignity and privacy during personal care routines.
- Monitor children for signs of illness, injury, discomfort, or changes in behaviour and communicate concerns appropriately.

Positive Guidance

- Use respectful and developmentally appropriate positive guidance strategies.
- Model calm, respectful, and appropriate communication.
- Help children identify and express their feelings appropriately.
- Support children in developing conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Encourage kindness, cooperation, respect, independence, and responsibility.
- Never use prohibited practices or inappropriate forms of discipline.

Family Communication

- Build positive and professional relationships with families.
- Provide appropriate updates regarding children's daily experiences, development, routines, and well-being.
- Listen respectfully to parent/guardian questions and concerns.
- Communicate significant concerns to the supervisor when appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and centre information.
- Support families during transitions into new classrooms or programs.

Teamwork & Professionalism

- Work collaboratively and respectfully with RECEs, ECAs, supervisors, supply educators, placement students, and other team members.
- Communicate important information during staff transitions and shift changes.
- Support new employees, supply educators, and placement students in understanding classroom routines and expectations.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development, and centre events as required.
- Complete assigned responsibilities in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Demonstrate reliability,



punctuality, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
- Provide constructive feedback and contribute to a supportive team environment.

Classroom Responsibilities The RECE is expected to assist with maintaining the classroom throughout the day, including:
- Preparing activities and Montessori materials.
- Cleaning and sanitizing materials and classroom areas.
- Maintaining organized shelves and learning areas.
- Completing required classroom documentation.
- Preparing children's learning experiences.
- Monitoring classroom supplies and notifying the supervisor when additional materials are required.
- Maintaining children's belongings and ensuring items are appropriately labelled and organized.
- Supporting opening and closing classroom responsibilities when assigned.
- Maintaining indoor and outdoor environments that are safe and inviting.

Professional Requirements The successful candidate should:
- Be registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
- Maintain all qualifications required for employment as an RECE.
- Have current Standard First Aid and CPR certification as required.
- Provide required background/vulnerable sector screening documentation.
- Complete required health and immunization documentation.
- Demonstrate knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Have an understanding of Montessori philosophy and practices or be willing to learn and implement Montessori-inspired approaches.
- Demonstrate strong communication, organization, teamwork, and time-management skills.
- Be able to work effectively with children, families, colleagues, and placement students.
- Be committed to ongoing professional learning and reflective practice.

Physical Requirements The position may require the educator to:
- Sit and work at children's level.
- Frequently bend, kneel, stand, walk, and move between indoor and outdoor environments.
- Assist children with dressing and personal care routines.
- Lift or carry children and classroom materials when necessary and appropriate.
- Participate in outdoor activities in varying weather conditions.

Professional Expectations All RECEs at CEY Childcare Kains are expected to represent the centre professionally and contribute to an environment where children feel safe, respected, capable, and valued. Educators are expected to demonstrate patience, consistency, compassion, professionalism, and respect while supporting the Montessori principle of encouraging children to develop independence through meaningful experiences.

Pay: $25.86 per hour

Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week
