We are a non-profit childcare Centre in the North York/ Toronto area. We provide high quality early learning and care for children from 6-12 years of age.

We are a before and after school program that provided care during the school year (split shift) and all non-school days to Full time hour shifts. (summer, PA days, March break, Christmas break etc...)

This is a split shift position with min 6 hours per day and may increase, we have competitive compensation and are a great organization to work for as we value our staff.

GRASP provides a caring, educational and inclusive program for young children in a group setting under the direction of the Program Supervisor. The RECE incorporates learning experiences designed to meet the individual needs of the children and helps with providing a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment showing sensitivity to the individual needs of children in all aspects of development using the ELECT Framework and How Does Learning Happen Document. This position calls for sound knowledge and experience in the techniques of Early Childhood Education and the ability to work constructively and effectively as a member of a skilled team in the management of classrooms.

The position reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for the effective day-to-day operation of the centre, ensuring alignment with the organization’s Program Statement and strategic objectives. This role ensures compliance with Toronto Children’s Services Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI), the How Does Learning Happen? framework, the Early Learning for Every Child Today (ELECT) framework, and the Continuum of Development to promote meaningful learning experiences for children and families.

The position supports the Executive Director in leadership, management, and daily operations, ensuring programs and services comply with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), organizational policies, and best practices in early learning. The Designate provides supervision to staff, assists with program planning and evaluation, and serves as a key resource for families, employees, and community partners.

In the absence of the Executive Director, the Designate ensures operational continuity, supports organizational long-term goals, and contributes to achieving the organization’s mission. Responsibilities include program development, administrative oversight, staff leadership, and the effective use of financial, human, and physical resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Leadership & Support

· Assist the Executive Director with daily operations and regulatory compliance.

· Support implementation of Board-approved policies and procedures.

· Provide leadership to staff and oversee daily centre operations.

· Contribute to program planning, evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives.

· Support administrative needs of the program and facility.

2. Staff Supervision & Development

· Supervise staff, placement students,



and volunteers according to organizational standards.

· Support staff orientation, training, and ongoing professional development.

· Conduct regular check-ins and assist with performance evaluations.

· Promote teamwork, collaboration, and a positive workplace culture.

· Provide constructive feedback and ongoing support.

3. Program Oversight & Quality Assurance

· Support planning and delivery of inclusive, age-appropriate programs aligned with How Does Learning Happen?, ELECT, and the Program Statement.

· Monitor classrooms and learning environments weekly to ensure safety, quality, and compliance.

· Support staff in delivering experiences fostering cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.

· Review weekly program plans to ensure alignment with AQI, ELECT, and the Continuum of Development.

· Ensure required documentation is completed (fire drills, sanitizing, handwashing, etc.).

· Ensure program plans reflect necessary updates and are implemented as outlined.

· Promote balanced learning experiences using a variety of resources.

· Ensure programs reflect children’s interests, needs, abilities, and learning styles.

· Ensure schedules reflect the needs of children and families.

· Assess classroom organization and recommend improvements.

· Review accident/incident reports for accuracy, clarity, and professionalism.

· Respond to parent inquiries and ensure consistent communication across staff.

· Ensure staffing schedules meet ratio requirements.

· Observe and evaluate programs daily, providing regular feedback.

· Lead team meetings in the absence of the Executive Director.

· Participate in program planning sessions with staff to ensure compliance with frameworks.

· Maintain required bulletin board postings and information for families.

· Supervise placement students and volunteers; complete evaluations and provide feedback.

· Share accurate information about policies and procedures with staff, students, families, and community partners.

· Ensure weekly transition forms and monthly observations are completed.

· Document menu changes and seasonal produce updates.

· Conduct outdoor playground inspections twice daily.

· Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to meet centre needs.

· Lead special projects as assigned.

· Communicate internal and external issues to the Executive Director.

· Support efficient daily operations and maintain a healthy, protected work environment.

· Ensure accurate record-keeping and regulatory compliance.

· Support disciplinary processes when required.

· Monitor departmental performance and progress toward goals.

· Stay informed of applicable legislation and regulations.

· Manage child registration and intake; conduct centre tours and information sessions.

· Maintain child files and emergency binders.

· Manage inventory and prepare shopping lists.





· Assist with summer camp planning, including trip schedules.

· Advise the Director on purchasing needs.

4. Compliance & Administration

· Ensure adherence to licensing, health and safety, and organizational policies.

· Maintain accurate records for staff, children, and families.

· Assist with Serious Occurrence reporting and licensing communications.

· Support fee collection, purchasing, and budget monitoring as delegated.

5. Family & Community Engagement

· Build positive relationships with families through ongoing communication and support.

· Promote parental involvement and address concerns professionally.

· Represent the organization at community events and networking opportunities.

· Engage families in understanding GRASP’s Program Statement, How Does Learning Happen?, ELECT, and the Continuum of Development.

SKILLS & PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

· Minimum four (4) years’ experience in a childcare leadership role

· Strong mentoring and motivational leadership skills

· Ability to manage key stakeholder relationships

· Willingness to learn new skills and tasks

· Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities

· Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial legislation

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

· Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or equivalent

· Current registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)

Experience

· Minimum three (3) years of ECE experience, including one year in a leadership role

REQUIREMENTS

- Holder of a valid Standard First Aid Certificate
- Holder of a valid CPR Level “C “Certificate
- Up to date immunization as required by governing legislation
- Up to date Criminal/Vulnerable Reference Check
- Must be physically fit to meet the needs of the program
- Computer skills in MS Office
- Sound command of the English language, oral and written
