Supportive Housing of Waterloo (SHOW) provides permanent supportive housing to individuals who have experienced homelessness. Using Housing First and harm reduction approaches, our team works alongside tenants to support long-term housing stability, improve quality of life, and create a protected and welcoming community.

The Opportunity

SHOW is seeking a compassionate, reliable and adaptable Relief Tenant Support Worker to provide coverage within our 24/7 supportive housing program at 362 Erb Street West.

Relief Tenant Support Workers are an important part of our team, providing direct support to tenants and helping maintain a safe, respectful and supportive environment within the building.

This position is well suited to someone who is comfortable working independently, building positive relationships with tenants, responding calmly to challenging situations, and working from a Housing First and harm reduction perspective.

Key Responsibilities

As a Relief Tenant Support Worker, you will:

- Provide direct support to tenants with a focus on housing stability, quality of life and overall well-being
- Build positive and respectful relationships with tenants and help reduce social isolation and create a sense of belonging
- Provide support using Housing First and harm reduction approaches
- Provide informal harm reduction support and ensure harm reduction supplies are available
- Respond to crises and provide de-escalation when required
- Complete and review shift documentation and daily logs
- Support tenants in accessing available onsite resources, including the food bank program where appropriate
- Conduct regular building and hallway checks to monitor safety,



noise and other concerns and ensure doors are secure
- Communicate relevant information and concerns to other members of the SHOW team
- Assist with light cleaning and general building duties as required
- Complete additional shift responsibilities necessary to support the safe and effective operation of a 24/7 supportive housing environment

- Can remain calm and professional during difficult or unpredictable situations
- Has strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills
- Understands the importance of professional boundaries, confidentiality and respectful workplace communication
- Is dependable and able to work independently while also contributing positively to a team environment
- Is comfortable working within a Housing First and harm reduction model
- Is willing and able to work a variety of relief shifts within a 24/7 supportive housing environment
