Role Overview
We are seeking a agile Retail Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of the Main Street Square Café and Gift Shoppe. This essential hub provides convenient, reasonably priced supplies, gift items, and food/beverage services for patients, staff, and visitors. In this role, you will balance business logistics with people leadership, managing daily operations while training and inspiring a dedicated team of volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Operations: Oversee all retail components of the Café and Gift Shop, ensuring top-tier customer service, quality standards, and equipment maintenance.
- Volunteer Leadership: Supervise, schedule, and train volunteer staff; resolve minor performance issues and collaborate with Volunteer Services for recruitment.
- Financial Management: Manage financial reporting, prepare cash floats/deposits, monitor annual budgets, and establish quarterly sales goals with the Board. Handling and completing bank deposits at local banking institution.
- Inventory & Buying: Manage product purchasing (online and in-person at local suppliers), vendor relations, and menu selections for all perishable and non-perishable merchandise.
- Marketing & Strategy: Develop and execute promotional strategies to market the shops and drive merchandise sales.
- Reporting:
Attend HVA Board meetings to deliver monthly summary updates on budget, inventory, staffing, and overall operations.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of retail experience at a supervisory level; prior experience coordinating volunteers is highly valuable.
- Education: Community College Diploma in a related field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
- Technical Skills: Hands-on proficiency with POS (Point of Sale) software, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
- Core Competencies: Strong organization, merchandising knowledge, interpersonal communication, and a commitment to service excellence.
- Physical Capability: Ability to safely lift and bend when handling inventory boxes and heavy beverage cases.
- Logistics: Access to your own vehicle for operational needs (mileage is compensated).
- Certifications: Willingness to get certified or re-certified in a Food Handler's Course.
